If you want to win games in this hard nose conference then you have to be able to establish your run game. A true great High School running back has to be fast, strong and blah blah blah… these dudes have all that… but were they differ from the rest is… defenders don’t want to tackle on them. Here’s a list of the top RBs in the KLAA going into this season.
Colbey Reed Colbey Reed 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Belleville | 2024 State MI – Belleville HUDL
Pro Comparison: Marshawn Lynch
Now we all who the Belleville Tigers are, and its safe to say that their QB1 is the truth. But to have a good passing attack, you need a great running attack and Colbey Reed Colbey Reed 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Belleville | 2024 State MI is a BEAST! The 5’10” 200lb bruiser is a human highlight film when he touches the rock and makes linebackers and safeties instantly regret coming downhill to make a tackle. A true downhill runner, that has great open field vision and runs with anger! Entering the 2023 fall Reed is set to be the featured back in the Tigers high powered offense, and has all the makings to be a D1/D2 prospect.
Devon Pettus Devon Pettus 6'1" | 230 lbs | RB Canton | 2024 State MI – Canton HUDL
Pro Comparison: Derrick Henry
Devon “GET OUT THE WAY” Pettus is an adult playing against kids on Friday nights. Standing at 6’1” 230lbs, Pettus looks like a created character on Madden. The 2024 D1 prospect enters his fall campaign under a new Head Coach who has plans to spread the field a lot more then the Chiefs fans have been use to. This will allow Pettus to see 5-6 man boxes for the first time in the High School Career! Devon has been a hammer in the Chiefs’ “Full House T” formation throughout his career but can finally show college coaches and scouts what he can do as the featured back in a spread system. Watch for Pettus to touch the ball a lot this fall for Canton.
Jaxon McCaig Jaxon McCaig 6'2" | 220 lbs | RB Plymouth | 2024 State MI – Plymouth HUDL
Pro Comparison: Arian Foster
Jaxon McCaig Jaxon McCaig 6'2" | 220 lbs | RB Plymouth | 2024 State MI only got the chance to show the state what he could do for four games last season due to injury but man did he make the most of those four games. Through those four games, McCaig rushed for 622 yards, averaging 155 yards per game. Jaxon has been making the most of this off season and is beyond hungry to suit back up for the Wildcats this fall and continue where he left off. Great vision, and quick cuts are just a couple of the tools in this RBs toolbox. Watch out for the Cats to be a heavy run team this fall with Jaxon as the featured back.
Caleb Moore– Northville HUDL
Pro Comparison: Todd Gurley
Caleb Moore was a huge part of the Mustangs magically run last season, as they were the true Cinderella Story of not just the KLAA, but the D1 playoff picture. As there were other great pieces to Northville’s Offense, Moore was the engine of that unit and boy is he electric to watch. Caleb has true track speed on the turf and has a skill of making force defenders look silly on his outside zone track. Through taking the edge is a huge part of his game, Moore isn’t afraid to get dirty between the tackles and run downhill. I feel Caleb is a very underrated RB in the 2024 class and is about to put the state on notice this fall.
