There are expectations for a quarterback, and then there are the lofty standard which several guys have already established, and now have to live up to.
A few underclassmen will head into next month’s Palmetto Combine Series having already had outstanding (and in some cases, record-setting) varsity seasons, with all eyes on them as preparations begin for next year.
Here’s a look at four guys who all threw for more than 2,000 yards last year, and who will be expected to lead from the very beginning. We can’t wait to watch them.
Brady Albro Brady Albro 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Chapin | 2025 State SC , Chapin
Albro had a sensational sophomore year, throwing for more than 2,500 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Eagles. He’s got a big arm, good vision, a quick release, and looks comfortable in the pocket.
Kalab Sutton, Easley
Sutton spent his sophomore year launching an assault on the Easley record books. He threw 24 touchdown passes, grabbing the mark for most TD passes in a season (encompassing 100 years of Easley football) and most TD passes in a game (6, against Berea) while climbing into the Top-5 in several other categories. A true dual-threat guy, Sutton threw for more than 2,000 yards and rushed for nearly 500 more, with eight TDs on the ground.
Bryce Drummond, Greenville
Drummond settled into the starter’s role at Greenville, throwing for 2,500 yards and 34 touchdowns and helping to lead a deep playoff run for the Red Raiders. He does a great job of staying in the pocket and letting a play develop, but is perfectly capable of beating you with his legs when he has to move.
Cutter Woods Cutter Woods 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Westside | 2025 State SC , Westside
Woods might have the biggest underclass arm in the Upstate. There doesn’t seem to be a throw that he can’t make, and it shows up on the field. Woods threw for 3,000 yards and 28 TDs as a sophomore, and with two of his top targets back, seems poised to have yet another stellar season this year.
