When we last touched on this District you probably remember a lot of discussion revolved around the State Champion Freedom Eagles. We would not be doing the Cardinal conference justice by not including some stars from the rest of the county. Without further ado here are some 2024 and 2025 prospects to keep our eye on:
Kaden Lewis
Kaden Lewis
Lewis makes plays at both safety and wide receiver for the Panthers, he is in my opinion better suited off for the safety position at the next level. A very rangy smart safety this rising Junior can make any quarterback look silly by reading their eyes. Countless times in reviewing his film did I see him bait the opposing quarterback into an interception, that is the definition of a ballhawk. Moving all around the field Lewis excels as receiver and gunner on special teams for Potomac, and has attracted interest from James Madison. I expect more FCS and FBS level schools to come calling soon.

Terrence Bethea
Terrence Bethea
Major upside on Bethea for 2023 as he continues to grow into his massive 6’4 nearly 200 lb. frame. A basketball player at heart, Bethea has the ability to translate his talents from the hardwood to the football field if he wants too. An ascending talent this rising Junior really came towards the end of last season for Potomac both as a tight end and outside linebacker. When you think of a prime example Antonio Gates is the first name that comes to mind when I watch film on Bethea. He has exceptional hands and decent speed which should be a matchup nightmare next season. The football ceiling is high for this young man, as he continues to grow I am confident more positive results will come.

While the Vikings finished a disappointing 4-6 this past season, you certainly cannot put any blame on this man. Lewis is another dual threat quarterback returning for the 2023 season and he throws one of the best deep balls I have seen. Standing at 6’1 Lewis is big enough to read a defense but some of his best highlights come from his throws out of the pocket or on the run. Very impressed with the moxie of this young man, constantly he was getting hit and he would get back up and deliver big throw after big throw. Lewis is an excellent student not only in the classroom but on the field as well. Looking forward to watch his progression and FCS teams to start calling this Fall.

Justin Watkins
Justin Watkins
Love this kid’s potential for Colgan, Watkins has a nice mix of speed, power and finesse a perfect package for the Sharks. Already clocked in under a 4.6 40 Watkins plays even faster than that on his tape. The Sharks have a special weapon in this dude, I would like to see his number called more for 2023. He also is another Colgan athlete excelling with his studies, boasting a 3.98 GPA. Between him and Copeland and many more, I fully expect the Sharks to finish above 500 in the conference this year.
