It won’t be long before the Class of ’23 will be walking to “Pomp and Circumstance,” however, there are still offers to be made by college programs and Letters of Intent to be signed by prospective athletes.
Over the next couple of weeks, I will take a look at Kansas players from the Class of ’23 still looking for college programs in which to continue their playing careers.
The first of those reports is on six skilled offensive players from Class 1A schools.
Harrison Brunk Harrison Brunk 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Inman | 2023 State KS , 6’0”, 175, Inman
Brunk is a solid offensive weapon. He made 41 receptions for 1,060 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior season. He also scored three rushing touchdowns while carrying the ball for 192 yards. He can run routes, run screen plays, catch balls out of the backfield, and run end-around plays. He is currently unsigned.
Karsten McKee Karsten McKee 5'10" | 225 lbs | RB Pleasanton | 2023 State KS , 5’10”, 230, RB, Pleasanton
McKee is a football player. He reminds me of Craig “Ironhead” Heyward. He is low to the ground but just explodes off the ball. McKee rushed for 1,017 yards and 10 touchdowns during his senior campaign. He played middle linebacker on defense. He could play tailback, fullback, or a scary pulling guard. He is unsigned but has had talks with JUCO coaches.
Bentley Montgomery Bentley Montgomery 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Smith Center | 2023 State KS , 5’7”, 166, RB, Smith Center
Montgomery hits the hole quickly and is tough to tackle. He rushed for 925 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season. He found the end zone 13 times on the ground as a junior. He played strong safety for the Redmen and could have a quick impact on special teams for a college program.
Jake Sasse Jake Sasse 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Smith Center | 2023 State KS , 6’2′, 230, FB, Smith Center
It Montgomery was the lightning for the Redman offense then Sasse was the thunder. He rushed for 904 yards and 14 touchdowns during his senior season. He is a bulldozer as a blocker and a Humvee as a runner. Montgomery has a frame for football and can play at the next level. Sasse has committed to continuing his football career at Benedictine.
Dylan Cervantez, 5’10”, 155, ATH, Valley Falls
Cervantez can run, throw, and catch. He played quarterback for Valley Falls during his senior season. He finished with 850 yards passing and 10 touchdowns through the air. He also added 103 yards receiving and 90 yards rushing. He is a team player and could contribute to special teams early for a program.
Logan Clark, 6’1”, 170, WR, Wabaunsee
Clark finished his senior season with 41 receptions for 590 yards. He scored seven touchdowns on receptions. At 6’1” he would be a taller slot receiver. He is not afraid of getting hit and has reliable hands. Clark is currently unsigned.
