Thomas Wilson – OL – Myers Park – An All-Conference player last season, Wilson stands at 6’3 and 280 pounds and will be a very important piece for the Mustangs this upcoming season. He has some interest from Coastal Carolina and Wake Forest so far, but has not posted any official offers just yet. He plays Center, which tells you what you need about his football intelligence. He can also play tackle and he is nasty at that position – his film has several knockdown blocks from that position. He also was the personal protector on the punt team – for an offensive lineman to play that role, that speaks to his athleticism and movement in space as well. Very good player.
Amoriea Jenkins (AJ) – ATH – Harding – AJ is a player that is under the radar and should be getting more attention. He has done some special things on the field – one-hand catches on offense, physical highlight tackles on defense, pick-6s, the list goes on and on. He is a playmaker and at 5’10 and 165 pounds, that’s what you need to be to get recruited. His future I think could be as a slot receiver on offense or a slot DB on defense, but I think he could honestly play either one. He plays very physically on defense and likes to set the tone with his play and confidence. Offensively I think he can do a lot – he wasn’t asked to do as much this past season, but even then he had 600 yards receiving on only 10 catches. Big play threat who can also make a difference on special teams.
Jakori Hood – TE/DL – Southview – I was very impressed with this young man’s film on both sides of the ball! First off, he stands at 6’4 and 230 pounds, excellent size that college coaches are looking for. As a Defensive Lineman, he has an excellent get off for both the Defensive Tackle or Defensive End position he plays. He shows very good strength when making that initial contact with an offensive lineman, and I think he is a good pass rusher. He can shed blocks in the run game and make tackles, but I think he excels more there. Offensively I really like him at Tight End. I would put his future there, I think he has excellent receiving skills. He makes a couple of tough catches on his film, and he shows excellent speed in his route running for his size. I am a little surprised that he doesn’t have much recruiting attention, but as he hits the camp circuit I’d expect interest to grow. He also lists Long Snapper among his positions, always a great value.
Christopher Riley Christopher Riley 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Eastern Guilford | 2024 State NC – OL – Eastern Guilford – I really enjoyed watching this film. Riley comes in at 6’4 and 285 pounds and was a part of an offensive line that carried his team deep in the playoffs this past season. Very strong at the point of attack – he played Right Guard and comes off the football very well on straight-ahead power runs. He also can get out and skip pull and form fit on the 2nd level well, I always like to see that. He’s stout in pass protection, with good initial step technique. Playing guard I didn’t see how he would fare against a speed rush in space, but this would be enough to generate my interest for sure. He hasn’t had much interest yet, but OL’s interest always seems to come a little later as they develop more physically.
Jordan Glover Jordan Glover 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB Southern Durham | 2024 State NC – DB – Southern Durham – Size, Size, Size with this young man is what got my attention. That and the athletic ability to match that size. At 6’3 and 180 pounds, his highlights show a young man that can play with good technique and use that technique to make plays. His first couple of highlights I believe he has 3 interceptions by being patient, not panicking, and playing the ball well at its highest point or driving on the ball with proper footwork and making the play. He also doesn’t shy away from contact and shows the athletic ability to be a good tackler in space. Colleges are really looking for long DBs with that athletic ability, and Glover should see interest rise as he goes to camps this summer.
Johnny Brown – OL – East Gaston – This is a big young man – 6’4 and 365 pounds! East Gaston is a run-first Wing type of team, so Johnny does a good job with what is asked of him – a lot of down and straight-ahead power blocks are in their scheme. Now, he does those things at a high level on his highlights – if he gets his hands on you in the run game, it is going to end up in a pancake and he has some nasty in him where he finishes blocks and plays to the echo of the whistle. He shows good feet when he climbs to the second level and uses his angles well to help him out. He does a good job at guard in the passing game with a strong punch against defensive tackles that are rushing the passer. Colleges will want to see how he moves in a camp setting, that would be important to see what his ceiling is as far as the next level goes.
