There were almost 100 athletes present ready for a full day of football. The camp started with testing athletes’ 40-yard dash, vertical jump, and bench press. Afterward, the camp transitioned into positional drills and then 1 on 1 and 7-on-7. In this article, I’ll be covering standout offense and defensive linemen.
Offensive Linemen
#247 Ben Mulholland Bridgeland Bear OG Jr 6’4 310 lbs
Ben Mulholland was the biggest offensive lineman at the VTOSPORTS. Ben as an offensive lineman had a solid stance being able to line up as a center or guard. Having a solid stance allows Ben to have strong striking power off the ball putting opposing defensive linemen at bay and not letting them get past him. Ben is already a strong offensive lineman if he could work on not lodging while blocking and keeping his posture straight he would be more of an exceptional lineman.
#246 Xavier Wilburn Johnson Jaguars OT Jr 6’2 275 lbs MVP
Xavier Wilburn is an overall stellar athlete. Xavier had great testing scores, and individual skills and dominated in 1 on 1 portion. Xavier showcased his tremendous strength 1st on the bench press getting over 20 reps in and strong-holding every defensive lineman opposing him during the camp. Xavier was killing it the entire camp earning him the offensive lineman MVP award.
#687 Deshaun Nixon Steele Knights OG So
Deshaun Nixon had a great showcase at the VTOSPORTS camp. Deshaun hasn’t made his varsity football debut yet at Steele High School, but he is getting ready for it during the off-season. Deshaun is great at pass blocking with a great stance and punching power. From what I saw Deshaun won the majority of his 1 on 1 against defensive linemen and was the most consistent lineman at this camp. I’m looking forward to hearing more about Deshaun Nixon when he starts varsity next season.
Defensive Linemen
#111 Josiah Pratt Summer Creek Bulldogs DT So 6’0 300 lbs
Josiah Pratt was a devastating defensive tackle. Since the start of the 1 on 1 portion I couldn’t stop watching Josiah. Josiah is not only quick off the ball but also comes off the ball strong and aggressive ripping through any opposing offensive linemen to get into the backfield. During the testing portion, Josiah had the most reps in bench press having 31 reps not only at the Houston camp but had the most reps at any VTOSPORTS camp held this year. Being a strong athlete in his sophomore season Josiah I’m looking forward to seeing him continuously improve throughout his high school football career.
#110 Kmard Kimble C.E King Panthers DT Jr 6’0 290 lbs
Kmard Kimble was the most experienced and outstanding defensive lineman at the camp. I witnessed Kmard this season at C.E. King he was an overwhelming defensive tackle on the field and I felt that same pressure this weekend. Quick off the ball, aggressive, had great hands, and an unstoppable drive that could not be stopped easily. During the 1 on 1 portion the offensive linemen needed to double teams Kmard to stop him. At the end of the camp, Kmard won the MVP award for the defensive linemen.
