Which sophomore defenders are bound for breakout junior seasons next fall? Let’s take a look…
Kameyon Green Kameyon Green 5'9" | 180 lbs | LB Monroe Comprehensive | 2025 State GA – Monroe
A versatile defender who can play in the secondary or at linebacker, Green is a defender who can really do it all. He can intercept the ball in coverage, he’s reliable tackler in open space, and he knows how to get after the quarterback. He’s a smart player who can make an impact no matter where he’s lined up. He had D1-caliber size and instincts at 5-foot-10 180-pounds and is coming off a very impressive sophomore season. He appeared to be one of the better players on the field at all times last year and was one of the more productive defenders in all of Southwest Georgia. He’s a turnover machine who knows how to make a play on the football. He has a true nose for the football and always finds a way to be around the play and make an impact. An outstanding pass rusher, Green made 8 sacks on the season as a sophomore while adding 87 total tackles, 15 TFLs, one INT, and four forced fumbles. He had a terrific season and proved that he can play at the next level, possibly at the D1 level. If he continues to work hard and develop his craft in the off-season, Green is bound for a monster junior season next fall.
Branson Brooks – Lambert
He may not be the biggest linebacker around, but don’t let the size fool you. It’s hard to find another returning linebacker in Forsyth County who is as tough, instinctive, and as productive as Brooks is going into the 2023 season next year. As a sophomore, leading Lambert to one of their best seasons in school history, Brooks showed natural instincts and brought a physical presence to the Longhorn defense. He was incredibly dependable as a sophomore last year and brought his “A” game very Friday night. He reads plays early and always finds himself around the football. He played great last year, making 63 tackles and an eye-opening 14.5 TFLs. He lived in the backfield last year, shedding blocks and chasing down the ball carrier. He plays the game the right way and played like a seasoned veteran last year, constantly making big plays behind the line of scrimmage. His 10.5 sacks were a school record, and again, he made it happen as just a sophomore. As good as he was last year, look for Brooks to possibly have an even bigger 2023 season as a junior, hoping to lead the Longhorns deep into the playoffs again.
Ryder Duffy – Roswell
One of the top young linebackers in Fulton County, Duffy was a tackling machine last season for a Roswell program back on thee rise again. A tough sophomore linebacker with natural instincts, Duffy plays bigger than his 5-foot-11 195-pound size and knows how to deliver a sound hit to the ball-carrier. Playing against some strong 6A competition on a weekly basis, the Roswell Hornet made play after play all season long, leading the 2025 class in tackles for the 6A class last year. A natural leader who led the Hornets defensively, Duffy was a big reason why they made it all the way to the 6A state semi-finals. Just a sophomore, Duffy was all over the field last year and knows how to chase down the ball-carrier from anywhere on the field. He doesn’t shy away from contact and wraps up consistency for someone his age. Duffy was consistently active all season, making 117 total tackles and 10 TFLs. He made at least 7 tackles in 10 games this year making him one of the more consistent and productive linebackers across the state last year in the 2025 class. Look for him to come back with another outstanding season in 2023.
