Martell Hughes Martell Hughes 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Madison | 2024 State CA and Jaylon Brown Jaylon Brown 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Madison | 2024 State CA are returning starters for Madison’s secondary that are generating legitimate D-I interest.
Buxton’s been the top San Diego DB in his class since his breakout sophomore season for Mater-Dei Catholic. He’s a legitimate lockdown corner for a back-to-back state championship team with major P-5 upside. He can man-cover over multiple positions with a strong blend of athleticism, technique, and instincts. He’s physical at the LOS in press-man and uses his length to disrupt routes on the front-end. He flashes twitchy reactions downhill and explosive burst breaking on the ball. Buxton has 11 D-I offers including Washington, Penn St., Arizona, BYU, and SDSU.
Woods is a versatile two-way starter for Carlsbad with promising DB talent and skillset. He’s a physical CB in man coverage that likes to jam receivers at the LOS and disrupt routes/timing. Athletically, he has fluid range of motion along with the ball skills and body control to create turnovers in the secondary. Woods is the top returning skill guy for a talented Carlsbad team. Woods added offers from Nevada, UNLV, Colorado St., and NAU in January.
Hughes has had a busy 2023 adding offers from Cal, Nevada, Colorado St., San Jose St., and Dartmouth. He’s a talented safety that covers the middle-third with length and range at 6’2”/190. He’s a strong tackler from his FS spot that uses his eyes to locate targets and attacks downhill aggressively. He’s urgent closing space and is a physical hitter at the POA. Hughes should continue to generate D-I interest moving forward.
Brown brings skill and athleticism to both sides of the ball for Madison at CB/RB. He plays with a physical edge on both sides of the ball and flashes ability to produce explosive plays with the ball. He totaled 30 carries for 440 yards and 5 TDs on offense and was a steady, active tackler on the perimeter. Brown just picked up his first D-I offer from Nevada in January.
Glaze is a strong, physical safety and the top returning DB for Granite Hills. He’s a violent downhill tackler that seeks out contact and runs through ball-carriers. He flashes compact burst in coverage with ability to make plays between the seams in zone coverage. He doesn’t hesitate to close space and provides physical run support in the box. Glaze holds SS upside in his overall physicality and tackle production.
