Continue ReadingThe Tales of the Tape Series is something new that I’m trying out as far as off-season content goes. Prospects have sent me their film in bulk since the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season. I will be sorting through the tape of the prospects that have entered their submissions, and I look forward to receiving more tape over the next few months. Tale of the Tape Evaluations will be performance based and kept concise in terms of length. I choose this format because most recruiters can tell a lot about prospects within that all-pivotal first 45 seconds of the tape. However, after I give their entire highlight a look, I will honestly asses what I see. With that being said, enjoy.
Kyle Coleman
Kyle Coleman
Mr. Coleman is a strong kid out of the 2024 class that has decent size and a bit of an upside. Coleman plays with intensity and he seems to understand his defensive responsibility in terms of playing defensive end. I was impressed with Kyle’s ability to use those long arms and his deceptive grip strength to shed opponent to make plays. This guy needs a big time senior season, and I’m sure he knows this and is working towards it. The main con that I have on Kyle is that he moves a little stiff at times, but he can run though, his pursuit is not impaired by it. I’m excited to see how Kyle can improve his game this off-season and help take Clarksdale to the next level!
Kieron Jones Kieron Jones 6’2″ | 190 lbs | LB Harrison Central | 2024 State MS is a physical defensive back that has film at Star, Corner, and Safety that I liked. Jones is versatile in the approach that he takes when making plays. He is a fearless ball-hawking defender that can also cover ground quickly and lay the wood. Kieron has exceptional athletic ability and a touch of fearlessness to go along with it. This mindset is why he plays so many positions in the secondary. He is also slightly faster and stronger than he may appear upon first glance. This is another guy that can see his recruiting trail be set ablaze if he grinds, works on getting his name out, and has a good senior campaign. He has gained interest from some programs last year, but we need the attention to turn into offers!
Highlights
I enjoyed watching this next prospect get after it in the trenches. Tyler Montgomery Tyler Montgomery 5’11” | 250 lbs | OL Glenwood | 2023 IL is 6’0 260 pound interior lineman that plays the game with admirable mettle and grit. He has tape at center, tackle, and guard but I believe that he will be snapping the ball on the next level. Tyler needs to work on his overall athleticism and core strength to get to the next level, but the necessary foundation in tact. There are a few programs that have expressed interest and invited him out to games, but no one has pulled the trigger on him just yet. Look for that to change in the next 6 months.
Great knee drive, smooth navigating through traffic, the innate ability to accelerate in and out of cuts, and get going at a stand still. These are a few of the initial notes that I have down for this promising 2024 prospect out of Laurel. Brayden Jordan Brayden Jordan 5’10” | 180 lbs | RB Laurel | 2024 MS is a guy that could make it to the next level simply based on his athleticism and skillset. Jordan has strong legs and a solid core that help him slip arm tackles and accelerate with ease. This off season I would like to see him work on sustaining his top end speed. Brayden has the attributes to get to the next level, but if he can work on that top end speed, his career will take off.
