Staying Close to Home
Here is a look at the four Kansas players signed by Pitt State.
Dagen Dean Dagen Dean 6'3" | 205 lbs | ATH Chanute | 2023 State KS , 6’2”, 215, LB, Chanute
The Chanute product was awarded the Kansas Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. He finished with 76 tackles with 16 tackles-for-loss and nine quarterback sacks his senior season. He is fast to the ball and has the size to cover tight ends. Dean is ranked No. 49 among his Class of 2023 Kansas peers.
Mario Menghini Mario Menghini 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Frontenac | 2023 State KS , 6’2”, 195, S, Frontenac
Menghini played both sides of the ball at Frontenac as a running back and defensive back. He finished his high school career with 2,235 career rushing yards with 26 touchdowns. It appears that the Gorilla staff with look for him to play on the defensive side of the ball. He could also get his feet wet in college on special teams as a gunner or returner. Menghini is ranked No. 90 in the Kansas Class of 2023.
Luke McLaughlin Luke McLaughlin 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Rose Hill | 2023 State KS , 6’2”, 185, S, Rose Hill
McLaughlin posted strong numbers for Rose Hill his senior season with 68 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups. He is a smart player and reacts well. He finishes tackles and has a nose for creating turnovers. McLaughlin is ranked No. 93 in the Class of 2023 rankings.
Luke Niggeman, 6-3, 201, TE, Girard
The Girard product is staying close to home. He helped lead the Trojans to consecutive 10-1 records and back-to-back CNC League titles. He played quarterback and free safety in high school. He is athletic and fast and at 6’3” he could cause serious match-up problems playing at tight end. Niggeman is ranked No. 186 in the Prep Redzone Kansas rankings.
