Continue ReadingThe DRSportz team hosted another successful seven-on-seven tournament in the state of Florida which featured talented teams from multiple regions and states such as Texas and Georgia. The showcase provides a perfect opportunity for scouts to get eyes on a lot of kids and watch them compete against high-skill level prospects from different areas. It’s what separates most from those who can handle the moment. For today, various teams met to compete in Davenport where recruits had the chance to showcase their skillsets during the offseason. Prep Redzone scout Andrew Johnson was in attendance to take in all the action. Here is a short list of some of the many defensive standouts throughout the tournament.
Brayshon Williams Brayshon Williams 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Lakeland | 2024 State FL | 2024 | Lakeland | @Brayshon4
5’11, 175-pounds
I watched Williams snatch two interceptions away from talented receivers. Played in the overhang safety spot during the 7v7 tournament but made his presence known all over the field. He also had more than a few pass breakups for team Ri5e Maroon. Williams also dominated on the defensive side of the ball during the Polk County 863Showcase with fluid hips and strong hands. The highly talented junior’s recruitment should continue to skyrocket. The four-star product holds offers from the likes of LSU, Ole Miss, and Alabama.
DJ Pickett | 2025 | Zephyrhills | @DJPICKETT5
6’4, 170-pounds
Pickett holds offers from nearly every Power 5 university in the country and rightfully so. Pickett is everything you want in a big-time defensive back recruit: size, length, and speed but also measurables. At 6-foot-4, there aren’t many receivers that stand as tall or have similar arm length. It’s Pickett’s quickness and hip movements that separate prospects at the position. A highly coveted prospect in the area and most scouts and coaches will be paying attention to his ongoing recruitment.
Troy Ford Jr | 2023 | Calvary Day | @TroyFordJr
6’1, 225-pounds
It was great to watch the recent UCF signee perform in another DR7 Davenport tournament. Ford plays on Team Dimes, located in the state of Georgia, so he must have been excited to compete against in-state Florida talent before his completed transition to Central Flordia. Ford recorded a couple of interceptions while shutting down the middle of the field. He’s exactly what college coaches look for when searching for an anchor or leader in the middle of the defense. Ford is a signal caller on the gridiron that sees routes before they develop. Not much that linebackers can do in a 7v7 format but Ford tries to dominate the entire field.
Samarian Robinson | 2024 | Lincoln | @SamarianRobins3
6’3, 215-pounds
Robinson is another UCF commit that traveled down from Tallahassee to display his talents in the Central Florida area. Robinson certainly passes the eye test, seemingly college ready as of now with long arms and a stocky frame. He’s really fluid on the football field which is positive when noting his size. UCF has found a gem in Robinson and will do all it can to fight off other schools as his recruitment is sure to skyrocket. He was clocked for the top five speeds at 20.93 by Catapult.
Nelson Tensley | 2024 | Clearwater | @ginothegreat12
6’3, 175-pounds
There aren’t many defensive backs with the pure height and length that Tensley has standing at 6-foot-3. He was someone that easily stood out because I thought he was a receiver playing out of place until I witnessed his twitchy and fluid hip movements with solid close-out speed. Tensley has another season to develop fundamentals to excel at the position. Recently received an offer from Charlotte but you can expect his recruitment process to change in the next few months.
Josaiah Knight Josaiah Knight 6'3" | 235 lbs | DL Havana Gadsden County | 2024 State FL | 2024 | Gadsen County | @josaiah_knight
6’4, 235-pounds
Knight plays and moves very well in space for his frame. He was clocked at a verified top speed of 19 mph by Catapult during the tournament. Has plenty of time to add needed weight to his already sizeable frame and development to excel in the position at the next level. Holds offers from Coastal Carolina, Liberty, and Maryland.
Joshod Hampton | 2025 | Bartow | @Joshod3
5’10, 140-pounds
Hampton was simply all over the field on both days of the tournament, earning his name on the list. Recorded an interception with multiple pass breakups while lining up against some of the more talented receivers in the state.
