No matter what position he’s playing, the standout athlete from Statesboro was outstanding wherever he was last year as a junior. A physically put-together prospect with muscle, Mikell also happens to be one of the fastest and most explosive players not only in the Savannah area, but across Georgia for the 2024 class. He’s an easy Power 5 prospect who saw his recruitment take off earlier this year, and now he’s made a massive jump in the latest 2024 rankings, coming in at No. 30 overall. As good as he is offensively with the ball in his hands, his speed, frame, and toughness make him a promising defensive back prospect at the next level. He has the playmaking ability like receivers do, but his closing speed, willingness to tackle, and natural athleticism make him one of the top DB prospects in Georgia. He consistently flashed as a junior on film and has the speed that college coaches covet. He’s one of the breakout prospects in Georgia so far this year and holds offers from Tennessee, Texas A&M, Colorado, Florida, Auburn, among others.
There weren’t many prospects who had a better end of January on the recruiting trail than the former Sandy Creek star who will play his senior season with the 6A state champion Langston Hughes Panthers. A hard-hitting defender with a promising frame and easy playmaking ability, Grude is a natural in coverage who closes well and uses his long frame to break away passes from opposing receivers. He plays the ball well in the air and can catch it at it’s highest point, making him an impressive playmaker out of the secondary. A physical run defender as well, Gude doesn’t shy away from contact and shows the ability to come down, shed blocks, and get after the ball carrier at or behind the line of scrimmage. He’s a promising safety prospect due to his overall range in coverage and physicality against the run, but he can line up in other areas of the secondary as well. He’s a weapon in the blitz game who can get after the quarterback and leave a devastating hit. Of course, he can be playmaker on special teams as well. After a massive junior season, Prep Redzone recently ranked Gude as the No. 20 prospect in the state, making him one of the biggest moves in the 2024 rankings on defense. He holds current offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, Oregon, among others.
