Coach Steven Warren and his crew at Warren Academy hosted several top prospects and unsigned seniors on Sunday. Warren Academy held a showcase with the goal of helping in-state (and nearby state) prospects gain more exposure in front of college coaches. The showcase featured a group of seniors that were looking to get in front of some more eyes before signing day and 9-11 graders wanting to jumpstart their recruitment.
This feature highlights the up-and-coming talent that was in attendance. With there being so much talent, you can expect a part two and possibly a third. Here are five players that were standouts from the showcase and are sure to make waves in the recruiting world this year.
Donovan Jones Donovan Jones 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Omaha North | 2024 State NE | 2024 | DB | Omaha North | 6’0″ 180 lbs
– Donovan is a player that I feel improves every time I watch him compete, whether it’s games or camps/showcases.
– Jones is a fluid athlete that can cut and change direction with ease.
– He’s disciplined in coverage and trusts what he sees with his eyes. He is quick to react once he has diagnosed the play.
– We didn’t get to see his tackling, but when he has pads on, he can really lay into the ball carrier.
– 46 tackles, seven pass deflections, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a rushing touchdown.
Ashton Murphy Ashton Murphy 6'5" | 240 lbs | DL Elkhorn South | 2024 State NE | 2024 | DL | Elkhorn South | 6’5″ 240 lbs
– Ashton really left an impression with his performance, picking up his first offer from the University of Northern Iowa (D1-FCS).
– He played on both sides of the ball for the Storm with projectable size as an OL or DL prospect. DL is where he has the highest upside.
– Murphy uses his length very well and gets a good bend when rushing the passer.
– Smart, efficient hand use that can turn violent when he needs to and has the strength to disengage from blocks.
– Looks like Ashton’s got next in a long line of Elkhorn South linemen.
– 32 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
Jackson Williams Jackson Williams 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Millard West | 2024 State NE | 2024 | WR | Millard West | 6’0″ 165 lbs
– I wish I had recorded some of the catches Williams was making just when warming up. One-handed snags, high-point catches, catches away from his body… during warm-ups!!
– Continued to impress during the actual event with a great showing in the combine drills and in 1v1 drills.
– Jackson does a great job working all levels of the field and runs crisp, explosive routes.
– He’s the type of player you can not give an inch to because he will take it and run with it.
– 28 receptions, 771 receiving yards, 657 return yards, 1,490 total all-purpose yards, and 11 total touchdowns.
Harry Caskey Harry Caskey 6'4" | 220 lbs | ATH Ogallala | 2024 State NE | 2024 | TE/ATH | Ogallala | 6’4″ 215 lbs
– Flat-out ATHLETE! Harry is going to be someone to keep tabs on this off-season.
– Caskey plays all over the field for Ogallala, from linebacker to QB to TE to punter, and he runs the ball very well. Caskey dominated Sunday’s showcase as a tight end.
– Passes the eye test right away with his 6’4″, 215 lb frame and really grabs your attention when you see how well he moves.
– Did a great job gaining separation from defenders and has solid hands to secure the catch.
– 618 passing yards, 797 rushing touchdowns, 257 receiving yards, 17 total touchdowns, 48 tackles, three tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, 603 punting yards, and 215 kickoff yards.
Travis Hines II Travis Hines II 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Papillion La Vista | 2024 State NE | 2024 | DB | Papillion La Vista | 6’1″ 165 lbs
– Physical defensive back that can jam receivers at the line of scrimmage.
– Hines is good with his hands and can sneak them between the receiver’s hands to break up passes.
– He’s a very good athlete with great range and speed to keep up with receivers.
– Great recovery speed and can close space in a flash.
– Sleeper player in the 2024 class with a very high ceiling. Holds an offer from Black Hills State.
– 20 tackles and five pass break-ups.
