Continue ReadingCommitment season has come early for some top 2024 prospects around the peach-state this month. Before taking any official visits, some impressive prospects in Georgia decided to pull the trigger early in their recruitment and make a college commitment this week.
Who are they? Let’s take a look..
Dwight Phillips Dwight Phillips 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Pebblebrook | 2024 State GA Jr – RB – Pebblebrook
One of the fastest prospects in thee country, the Cobb County native out of Pebblebrook High School showed his elite track-speed over and over again last year as a junior. Not only is he incredibly fast with game-changing speed, his explosiveness and sudden quickness make him one of the top offensive weapons across the state. No matter where he’s lined up, Phillips has a chance to make a play whenever the ball is in his hands. As a runner, he shows great vision, burst, and the ability to fly past defenders with ease. He can score from anywhere on the field, and he’s decided to stay in the state and play for the two-time national champion Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are “Running Back University” in the college football world, and the only recruit the best of the best at the position each year. His speed, burst, and overall running style make him one of the best, and he has a chance to make an early impact in Athens when the time comes. He’s one of the top-ranked running back prospects not only in Georgia, but across the South in the 2024 class. Look for him to have one of the best senior seasons among all running backs in the peach state for the 2023 season.
Wendell Gregory Wendell Gregory 6'4" | 215 lbs | DB Walton | 2024 State GA – Linebacker – Walton
He may not have lit up the stat sheet last year for the talented Walton Raiders, but it’s easy to see the talent and potential that the promising linebacker has. He’s long and athletic at 6-foot-2 220-pounds with a muscular build. He moves well, runs well for his size, and can swallow up ball-carriers behind the line of scrimmage. He’s excellent in coverage and knows how to make a play on the ball when the opportunity approaches. He’s still raw from a fundamental and technical standpoint, but the natural athleticism is what helped bring in plenty of impressive D1 offers. He also showed the ability to rush off the edge and get after the quarterback. He’s too quick for opposing tackles in the area and can be a QB’s worst nightmare once he comes flying around the corner. As good as he looks coming off his junior year, Gregory is only going to get better and better over the next several years. He has the potential to be a pass-rushing outside linebacker who can also help against the run , and at the next level he’ll be showcasing his talent for Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Michael Smith Michael Smith 6'4" | 225 lbs | TE Calvary Day | 2024 State GA – TE – Calvary Day
One of the top pass-catching tight ends in Georgia, Smith has been a dominant force around the Savannah area the past two seasons and is coming off a big junior season where he scored touchdowns left and right for a talented Calvary Day squad. At 6-foot-4 225-pounds, Smith is a dynamic tight end who can both block on the run game and add major value in the passing game. He runs well for his size and a big target for quarterbacks to hit down the field. As a junior last year, Smith caught 24 passes for 601 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was a reliable option all year long and knows how to find the end-zone. He plays like a receiver down the field, getting open on his own and contorting his body in the air when making a big play. He has big, strong hands and knows how to reel in a tough catch. With plenty of D1 offers to choose from, Smith decided to go ahead and make his college commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

A versatile lineman with quickness off the ball, Thompson has plenty of size with a promising frame at 6-foot-3 275-pounds who lived in the backfield last year. He can line up on the edge, but can also be a force to handle from the inside. His initial quickness stands out which gives him the ability to wreck an upcoming run play. He’s strong, physical, and knows how to deliver a big hit. The Tigers recruit the defensive line extremely well and now have one of the best in Georgia committed in the 2024 class.
