Prep Redzone takes a look…
Anthonie Knapp – OL – Roswell
A long, lean offensive tackle out of Roswell, the 6-foot-5 260-pounder is one of the breakout offensive line prospects in the Atlanta area after a gigantic junior season, leading the Hornets to a big season offensively. He has a promising frame that should allow him to add more muscle and mass over time, something college coaches love to see. He shows good footwork for his size, can get to the second level, and does a great job of playing until the whistle and finishing his blocks. He plays with a mean streak and knocked down 81 defenders while giving up just one sack all season long. He showed D1 potential all season and earned a major D1 offer this week from Penn State. With the Nittany Lions on board, look for Knapp’s recruitment to really take off this month and into the spring when more coaches take a look at his junior film.
Jordan Thompson – LB – Langston Hughes
A tackling machine who also made plays in coverage last year as a junior, Thompson was one of the leading defenders last year for 6A champion Langston Hughes, and it’s time college coaches started to notice. Thompson is a productive middle linebacker with a nose for the football who rarely misses a tackle, making 117 tackles in just 10 games last year. He also made two INTs, showing he’s a playmaker in every aspect defensively. A dual-sport athlete and a tremendous baseball player, Thompson is one of the more athletic linebackers in Atlanta and earned a big offer this week from James Madison, one of the top up and coming college football programs in the country. After a big junior season, look for more offers to come his way.
Micah Welch Micah Welch 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Baldwin | 2024 State GA – RB – Baldwin
An excellent runner at 5-foot-9 200-pounds, the Middle Georgia back from Milledgeville is coming off a dynamic junior season where he rushed for 1,373 yards and 16 touchdowns. He averages 125 yards per game and made it look easy at times. He’s a tough, physical runner who knows how to break tackles, but has some shiftiness to him as well. He’s a natural runner and one of the top 2024 running backs across the state. He ended the season as well as any back in the state, rushing for 851 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final four games of the season. He can put his team on his back when he needs too, and he can absolutely play at the next level. He earned a new offer this week from UCF and more are likely to come his way.
Caleb Odum – TE – Carrollton
One of the leading receivers in 7A last year, Odum is coming off an impressive junior season last fall where he helped lead the Trojans all the way to the 7A state championship. A long, athletic pass-catcher with plenty of size at 6-foot-6 215-pounds, Odum already has a handful of D1 offers, but his recruitment is still on the rise. He added a new offer from UCF this week and he should expect more to come sooner than later. A big weapon in the passing game, Odum is a physical blocker on the edge who can also make big plays down the field as a receiver. As a junior last season, Odum caught 64 passes for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns. Look for him to have an even bigger season as a senior in 2023.
