Prep Redzone takes a look…
Demello Jones – Swainsboro
One of the hottest prospects in the entire state right now, Jones is a two-way player and one of the top overall athletes in South Georgia for the 2024 class. Whether he’s at running back or at linebacker, Jones was a big-time playmaker throughout the season for an excellent Swainsboro team that made it all the way to thee Single-A state championship. Thee 6-foot-1 180-pounder plays fast, physical, and simply loves the game. At running back, Jones dominated as a junior, rushing for 1,279 yards and 20 touchdowns while adding 384 yards and 7 more touchdowns. Defensively, he made 44 tackles and broke up six passes. He was consistently one of the best players on the field at all times and added quite a few offers this week with the biggest coming from Notre Dame.
Duke Watson Duke Watson 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB Mary Persons | 2024 State GA – Mary Persons
The Middle Georgia back out of Mary Persons dominated as a junior last year, and the D1 offers are rolling in. One of the top returning rushers in 3A, Watson is coming off a sensational junior season last year and recently earned an offer from the fast-rising James Madison program. A quick, agile back from Forsyth, Watson is a tough 5-foot-10 175-pounder who rushed for 1,669 yards on 200 carries and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. He was one of the most productive junior backs in the state last year and he could see more offers coming his way this upcoming spring. He’s a smooth runner with balance and the ability to score every time he has the ball, so look for him to have a giant senior season in 2023.
Jivan Baly Jivan Baly 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Meadowcreek | 2024 State GA – Meadowcreek
A tough, instinctive defensive back out of Meadowcreek, Baly just finished a nice junior season, showing he can lockdown receivers on the outside or in the slot. The playmaking defender from Gwinnett County has a nice frame for someone his age at 6-foot-1 170-pounds and appears to be fundamentally sound on an island by himself. He totaled over 35 tackles last season and picked off two passes. He’s a tough defender who knows how to tackle, and this week he added a new offer from Miami. He can run step for step with just about any receiver in Gwinnett County lined up against him and is playing for an excellent staff looking to take Meadowcreek to the next level. Baly can also use the sideline well in coverage and appeared to play better and better as the season went along as a junior. Look for more offers to come his way with a strong off-season.
Kam Mikell – Statesboro
One of the top overall athletes in the Statesboro and Savannah area, Mikell is a dynamic defensive back who also helps his Statesboro team on offense. He’s a strong kid with D1-caliber size and his recruitment is in the middle of taking off. The two-way player is smart, instinctive, and defensively, he knows how to make a sure tackle and deliver a big hit. Physically, Mikell already looks like a D1 player at 6-foot-2 180-pounds and his best football is still ahead of him. He’s a rangy defender who closes well against the run and covers a lot of ground in the back end against the pass. He’s a prospect whose stock will continue to rise, and he earned a new SEC offer this week from Colorado.
