Pennsylvania 2024 Commitment Report, First Five Dominoes to Fall
In this article:
Oregon has secured four hard commits amongst the class of 2024. The first dating back to late October, when the Ducks secured a verbal from future TE four-star prospect A.J. Pugliano out of Medford Oregon. Oregon has since secured two other hard commits from prospects on the West Coast, those being four-star wideout Jordan Anderson out of Long Beach, California and 6-6, four-star tackle Fox Crader out of Vancouver, Washington. Major props to Dan Lanning and the recruiting personnel staff for landing the top wideout from a state across the country, that being 2024 WR/ATH Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA out of Roman Catholic. Oregon now holds verbals from two of the country’s premier pass-catchers. Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA has flirted with the top overall ranking in the state, battling for position with Omillio Agard Omillio Agard 5’11” | 160 lbs | DB St. Joseph’s Prep | 2024 State PA out of St. Joseph’s Prep and Quinton Martin Quinton Martin 6’3″ | 200 lbs | ATH Belle Vernon Area | 2024 State PA out of Belle Vernon Area HS. Although ranking below the trio, I stand on Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA being the best pure athlete in the enitre state of Pennsylvania has to offer.
Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA ‘ commitment to Notre Dame came around the same period four other four-stars announced their decision. A ton of off-season hype surrounding the permanent hiring of Marcus Freeman helped the Fighting Irish land CJ Carr, Cam Williams, and Jack Larsen in June of this past Summer. Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA was not too far after the trio. Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA currently stands as the only offensive lineman to verbal to the program thus far. Jones will still place high as far as tackles go amongst whoever Notre Dame lands in the future. Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA has ranked as the top tackle of the 2024 Pennsylvania linemen class since its existence, proving to be one of the more consistent performers in the state. A prospect with a very high floor.
Highlights
Jahsear Whittington Jahsear Whittington 6’1″ | 280 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA , the top-ranked defensive lineman in his class, has served as the first prospect to verbal to Pitt. Pat Narduzzi and staff have secured an in-state defender in hopes to make an impact and secure future commits out of the Eastern side of Pennsylvania. The list of 2024 verbals is low, with Florida’s Ric’Darious Farmer being the only other prospect to announce his commitment to the program, doing so this past Christmas. Other sites tend to grade Whittington much lower than what I believe to be deserved. Nonetheless, Pitt has a three-star out of Philly under their belt. Whittington has stood his ground in the state, with no other defensive linemen grading close to his top-ten rank. Whittington is the stand-alone interior defensive lineman for those recruiting Pennsylvania football.
Penn State University’s 2024 class begins to build in-state, securing McDowell HS’s Cooper Cousins Cooper Cousins 6’6″ | 310 lbs | OL McDowell | 2024 State PA in January of 2022, as well as securing Pittsburgh Central Catholic linebacker Anthony Speca Anthony Speca 6’2″ | 215 lbs | LB Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2024 State PA just this week. Two commitments in January, albeit a year apart. Cousins and Speca have a few things in common. Both grade out as four-star recruits, both land as top ten prospects on our rankings, and both play ball on the Western side of Pennsylvania. Outside of the above-mentioned Peter Jones Peter Jones 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Malvern Prep | 2024 State PA , no linemen prospect ranks above Cooper Cousins Cooper Cousins 6’6″ | 310 lbs | OL McDowell | 2024 State PA . Cousins towers over the majority of this class, standing at an impressive 6’6, weighing in at over 300 pounds. Both Jones and Cousins have battled for offensive linemen supremacy each time we update our rankings. Both are deserving of the top spot.
The latest Pennsylvania domino to fall, the verbal that led to the piece, is top-ranked 2024 linebacker Anthony Speca Anthony Speca 6’2″ | 215 lbs | LB Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2024 State PA , a prospect with hardly any flaws on tape. Other LBs like Dayshaun Burnett Dayshaun Burnett 6’4″ | 220 lbs | LB Imani Christian Academy | 2025 State PA and Ta’Mere Robinson Ta’Mere Robinson 6’3″ | 225 lbs | LB Brashear | 2023 State PA ranked higher in different classes strictly because of the versatility those prospects bring to the table. Speca might not bring the same alignment versatility, yet he’s the top-ranked backer for a reason. Closer to 6’3, 225, Speca has cemented his spot as the class’s top linebacker since we began covering him back in 2021.
