What is tough, though, is pairing it down and putting a placement on the honorees.
Five players went over 1,000 yards receiving, two had over 20 touchdowns, 15 more caught at least 10 receiving scores and that is just the main numbers.
First Team – Garrett Watts – Montezuma – Junior
The Montezuma offense from 2021 graduated some incredible talent, but with Garrett Watts leading the way last year, the Braves did not drop off much. Watts, a junior, finished with 52 receptions for an eight-player leading 1,163 yards with 22 touchdowns – which were also first. He averaged 22.4 yards per reception on the year.
Second Team – Riley Hawkins – Moravia – Senior
The other 20-touchdown receiver, Riley Hawkins of Moravia finished off his prep career with a bang. He caught 49 passes for 1,125 yards with 20 of those catches going for scores. That helped him produce a 23-yard average per catch, which placed him among the state’s best.
Hawkins also carried the ball 13 times for 90 yards with two more scores, recording 42 tackles on defense with five forced turnovers.
Third Team – Ryan Greenfield – Newell-Fonda – Senior
A dual-threat at its finest, Ryan Greenfield helped Newell-Fonda reach the state semifinals this past fall. He caught 58 passes for 903 yards with 10 touchdowns, adding 641 yards and 16 scores on the ground. Greenfield averaged 15.6 yards per catch and five yards per rush.
On defense, he was all over the field, recording 56 tackles with two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a score. Greenfield also had a punt return for a touchdown.
