This kid out of Mendenhall is a 6’1 170 pound defensive back that has really polished technique for a 2025 prospect. Zo Newsome is a part of that Mendenhall Defense that gave teams a ton of trouble this past year. With that being said, I expect Mr. Newsome to head into his Junior year full of free game that he soaked up from his experience as a sophomore. Zo Newsome has a solid frame, he can run, and he also has a fluidity in his hips that you usually don’t see out of prospects this early. Newsome can also shed blocks and come down and be a threat in run support for the tigers when need be. I’m sure this summer Newsome will only get bigger, faster, and stronger. He has a been invited to a few showcases in the past couple of months, so expect for Zo’s recruitment to pick up a bit this off-season.
Yaviel Lopez | 2024 | SS/OLB | Gulfport
Yaviel Lopez is a Junior coming off of a 100 tackle season who plays his position as fearless as anybody in the state. At just over 6’0, Lopez has a decent frame and he carries it well. From watching his tape, I sum up his game with these three words: smart, physical, and fast. Yaviel has great game speed when closing to corral ball carriers, and his instincts only fuel that speed in order to make plays. Yaviel is adept attacking oncoming blockers and shedding them to make plays near the trenches. Recently he attended the US Army All- American Bowl Combine where he showed his prowess in pass coverage as well. I seen big plays all over this kids tape where he is making easy work out of potential Power 5 prospects, consistently. This kid loves to fly around and make plays man, and he doesn’t mind putting all 190 pounds on people. Look for Yaviel to gain offers out the woodworks this off-season.
Skylar Husband Skylar Husband 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Petal | 2024 State MS | 2024 | CB/WR | Petal
Skylar is a underrated 3 sport athlete out of Petal that has a 3.9 GPA going into his junior off-season. The 6’1 175 pound Corner didn’t allow a single touchdown scored on him all season in his junior campaign. Skylar is long and can truly fly around the football field in order to make play for his defense. He has shown great feet and technique on tape and exemplary ball skills to go along with them! Skylar is a twitchy athlete that has a quick processor. In other words, he can process plays that need to be made on field at a rapid rate. Once he assesses the play, he relies on his quick twitch ability to help him make the necessary plays. Mark my words, Skylar Husband Skylar Husband 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Petal | 2024 State MS is a heck of a ball player and he will become a Division-1 Defensive Back. There are several programs in the surrounding states that have shown interest and had him attend games. Once one of them pulls the trigger on him, look for more programs to follow suit.
Patrick Broomfield | 2024 | CB | Grenada
Mr.Broomfield isn’t your prototypical cornerback and based off of his measurements and with his skill-set he has huge upside. This is yet another slim and long Corner that I’m evaluating and it seems like the Sipp is just breeding more and more of these guys at this point. Patrick has a great awareness as a defender and always seems to find himself around the football or in a position to make plays. Last season, Broomfield posted 60+ tackles, 3 interceptions (1 Pick-6), and 11 pass break-ups. Not to mention, Patrick is a physical presence to his game that I can’t let his prowess in coverage overshadow. Despite that slim frame, he is a more than willing tackler that can shed blockers to make plays on ball carriers. Here recently there has been a growing interest in his recruitment. He attended Mississippi State’s Junior Day last weekend, and on Tuesday he picked up his first Division-1 offer from Arkansas State. Broomfield is hungry and he is adamant about getting his name out there too. As long as he continues to do so, in combination with putting in the necessary work to perfect his craft, the slim reaper will turn a lot of heads this coming fall.
