The third practice was rainy but the players relished the opportunity to practice one more time in their high school helmets. This seems to be an excellent decision, as playing MLB has allowed his footwork to shine. He's improved leaps and bounds with each of the three practices and should see work there during the game. He received tons of coaching and was hard to identify the first two days with the positional change, but is focused enough to get better every day in practice. It's unclear if he has any offers but he's looked like one of the best defensive players due to his sideline-to-sideline ability that draws from good vision and footwork. He's been the heart and soul up the middle of their defense throughout practice, ducking under blocks and creating some of the most pressure every day out of a 4-3 DT position. He's had one of the quickest get-offs on the field and arguably the best handfighting skills. He's been challenged by Head Coach Mark Keel and has responded well. While the former was the heart, McLean has been the motor of the defense all week, making life hard for tackles on both sides of the line. He's been one of the strongest DLs on the field and is athletic enough to standup and play an OLB role. Although he's been mentioned in that 3-4 standup role for college recruiting purposes, he's shown the ability to add size without sacrificing agility after breaking out for Interlake. He was effective against the formidable OTs of the North 1:00 offense when getting pressure on the edge, and has great footwork to set an edge, forcing the team to think twice about running to his side. He has an impressive ability to go inside or outside, as one play after a great bend around the edge, he dipped inside with great form and punished a blocking RB. He's creative with his hands and doesn't take plays off. He finally copped a pick-6 today and was one of the best players on the entire field. The Central Washington commit was an a first team all-leaguer after a great senior season at Juanita. As an OLB, he does a little of everything and looks athletic doing it all. He plays with his eyes up and has good coordination. His feet are active and he balances on the balls of them. He has decent hip mobility and his stance keeps his center of gravity low. He also had great form in the tackling circuit early in practice.
