Vaughn Johnson not only is an addition on to our rankings but Johnson quickly became one of the most exciting defenders to watch this fall. Johnson was a constant disrupter in the backfield of his Fordham Prep opponents. Johnson has the unique ability to just squeeze through tight spaces between lineman. Johnson is always making plays or initial contact behind the line of scrimmage and his stats do not even do him justice. If Johnson is not finishing a play himself he is disrupting the play, its rhythm, and multiple offensive lineman.
Maurice Knight Maurice Knight 6’3″ | OL Canarsie | 2023 State NY was a really solid player for Canarsie all season. One of the strongest and most powerful centers in New York Knight was a mauler at the center position. He played against some stacked PSAL defensive lines and was a really effective player. Knight does a great job of finishing double teams on the interior. Knight has some positional versatility as he also lines up at guard. As a guard Knight is a great blocker in the run game and finishes blocks consistently. Knight had a really strong season against some really good PSAL competition.
Anthony Schrom Anthony Schrom 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Shaker | 2023 State NY was a really solid offensive tackle for Shaker this season. Schrom displayed really good strength and moved defensive ends with ease. Schrom is a finisher when blocking down toward the interior and does a good job of bouncing off of his first block and getting his hands on defenders at the next level. Schrom moves well and has really good size for the position at 6-5, 300lbs. Schrom gets recognition in our rankings because of the strong play he put on tape this season.
Moshood Giwa Moshood Giwa 6’7″ | 290 lbs | OL Moore Catholic | 2023 State NY , the Long Island University Signee and Tackle for Moore Catholic had a really solid senior season. Giwa is one of the most intriguing prospects for the next level at 6-7, 290lbs. Giwa has a lean frame but uses his length to keep defenders from getting any sort of control with their hands. Giwa has solid movement skills and footwork which helps him use his size to an advantage. Giwa had a great year for Moore Catholic and although his commitment came earlier in the season he deserved a spot in our rankings for a strong senior season.
Ethan Stierheim Ethan Stierheim 6’4″ | 305 lbs | OL Williamsville North | 2023 State NY , Valparaiso commit is a really solid tackle prospect who showed throughout his senior season a well rounded skillset. Stierheim is a solid run blocker and does a really good job of not letting defenders shed his blocks. A strong base allows Stierheim to get some really solid push on the line. Stierheim also uses that strong base in pass protection where he is really solid at effectively stalling bull rushes and bigger pass rushers.
Highlights
Jaeden Jenkins Jaeden Jenkins 6’2″ | 165 lbs | DB St. Anthony’s | 2023 State NY is committed to Penn State for Lacrosse but the way the St. Anthony’s cornerback played this season could have easily played his way into an FCS level program if he were not such a talented Lacrosse player. Jenkins has incredible athleticism and incredible instincts. His eyes and ability to turn his head back to the ball allow him to make plays on the ball consistently. Jenkins also had his best performances against the most talented teams with several huge impactful plays against both games I saw him play against Iona Prep and Archbishop Stepinac.
Jackson Nixon Jackson Nixon 6’4″ | 260 lbs | DL Pittsford | 2023 State NY is a really effective two-way lineman who could potentially play either at the next level. I think that he projects best as a defensive lineman because of his quickness and ability to use block shedding techniques effectively and quickly off the snap. Nixon’s strong performance this season led to offers from New Hampshire and Valparaiso. Nixon has really solid findamentals and the body frame to not only add strength and muscle but be an effective lineman on day one because of how quick he is.
Daved Richardson Daved Richardson 6’5″ | 260 lbs | OL William Floyd | 2023 State NY is one of the most athletic lineman in this recruiting class from New York. Richardson moves incredible well, almost as quick and fast as a tight end. However, Richardson has impressive strength in his upper and lower body and can push defenders 5+ yards consistently. Richardson has incredible size at 6-5, 260lbs and has the opportunity to put on more weight and muscle at the next level. Richardson could be one of the best remaining tackle prospects available in New York in terms of his potential and his athleticism if the most impressive of this lineman class.
Mikey Doctor Mikey Doctor 6’1″ | 185 lbs | WR Canisius | 2023 State NY was an incredible playmaker for Canisius consistently making highlight reel plays. Doctor had to play with a couple different quarterbacks but his performance never wavered. His skillset of being strong, fast, and attacking the ball as a receiver Doctor was one of the most consistent pass catchers in all of New York. Doctor has great size and athleticism to at 6-1, 195 and has the skillset to play on either side of the ball. Doctor’s strong play this season has led to several offers this season. Doctor has offers from Wittenberg, Seton Hill, Mount Union, Saint Anselm, and Fordham (PWO) since the season has ended.
Alex Simmons Alex Simmons 6’4″ | 215 lbs | ATH Lincoln | 2023 State NY is a really good athlete with great size and intriguing positional versatility. Simmons played WE/TE/LB/S for Lincoln in the PSAL and was one of their most electric players all season. Simmons has such intriguing size at 6-4, 215lbs that he could really project at a few positions at the next level. On offense I think Simmons could put on some weight and be a really dangerous pass catching tight end. Simmons showed this season he has the speed and ball skills to make really big plays. On the defensive side of the ball Simmons could be pushed back and be a bigger safety prospect with long range or bulk up and become a extremely athletic edge defender. Simmons may have not been the most notable New Yorker on the stat sheet but his ability to contribute in so many ways on the field make him a necessary addition to our rankings.
Darius Morant Darius Morant 5’11” | 205 lbs | RB St Anthony’s | 2023 State NY is one of the best runners in New York. Morant’s size and speed combination is really impressive. At 6′, 205lbs with a 4.5 40 time Morant is a great prospect for the next level. A part of a committee backfield on the best team in the state St. Anthony’s. Morant is really good at breaking through arm tackles and does a great job of staying north as a runner. Morant also has solid acceleration through the hole and does a good job of not being overaggressive as a runner being patient waiting for the right space to present itself. Morant was a key figure to one of the most explosive offenses in all of the Northeast this season.
Highlights
Dylan Walker Dylan Walker 6’0″ | 175 lbs | DB St. Francis | 2023 State NY is one of the best pure coverage players in this seasons secondary class, he is really sticky as a corner and does a great job of utilizing different coverages as a corner. Even with a smaller frame at 6′, 175lbs Walker is really effective as a press corner. Walker does an incredible job of using the sideline as a second defender and was often left alone on an island to cover 1 on 1. Walker could move inside at the next level because of his size but I think his best role is as a boundary corner because of how impressive he is in man coverage. Walker has the speed, athleticism, and coverage skills to be a really effective corner at the next level.
Conor Fitzgibbon Conor Fitzgibbon 6’0″ | 175 lbs | ATH Monroe-Woodbury | 2023 State NY is a really well-rounded two way player. He played in a run-first offense as a running back that was a threat as a receiver out of the backfield and on defense he played primarily as a safety/slot corner. Fitzgibbon was effective at all of his positions and he has great football instincts. Fitzgibbon has really good change of direction skills which makes him dangerous with the ball in his hands on offense. His instincts and athleticism help him make plays on the ball on the defensive side. As far as positionally at the next level Fitzgibbon could play on either side, he has the skills to really develop as a solid player in a few different roles.
Derek Varley Derek Varley 6’4″ | 215 lbs | TE Bayport | 2023 State NY is one of the most talented offensive playmakers available in New York. Varley does a great job of using his size as a pass catcher to create advantages. Varley has really great athleticism for a tight end and although he is only 215lbs has the strength and blocking fundamentals to be an effective in-line tight end at the next level. Varley has a really good skillset as a pass catcher and unlike many other tight ends in this class has solid ability after the catch. Varley has a great combination of size, strength, and fundamentals to be a really solid tight end at the next level.
Highlights
Chris Howell Chris Howell 6’2″ | 180 lbs | QB Canarsie | 2023 State NY showed all season long for Canarsie the playmaking ability he can bring to the field. Howell is a really solid athlete and can make plays with his feet or his arm. Howell is one of the best deep ball throwers in New York and has a really smooth release. Howell signed with Long Island University and will stay in Brooklyn. The dangerous duel-threat quarterback likely will have to develop his short area accuracy and decision making as a thrower early on in his career but his ability to make highlight reel throws all season long make him a can’t miss prospect for local colleges and LIU was able to secure his services.
Ty Rader Ty Rader 6’3″ | 275 lbs | DL Victor | 2023 State NY is an extremely versatile lineman who was dominant both as a defensive tackle and a offensive lineman. I think at the next level Rader will likely line up on the defensive side of the ball at the next level because of his quickness off the snap and finishing ability as a tackler. Rader has a great motor and will finish plays that end up far away from his initial position. Rader does an incredible job of using his quickness to win early and disrupt plays in the backfield. Rader does a really good job of shedding blocks at the LOS to get hits and hands on runners through the hole. Rader is a really effective disrupter and just earned an offer from Southern Connecticut State after a strong season.
Jalen Myers Jalen Myers 6’6″ | 290 lbs | OL Clarence | 2023 State NY is one of the best physical prospects in this recruiting class. At 6-6, 290 pounds Myers is a really solid tackle prospect who has elite strength. Myers strength comes from his base where defenders cannot get by Myers once he has a hold of them. Myers does a really good job of getting his hands inside and controlling defenders at the point of attack. Myers size, athleticism, and senior year performance all deserve a spot in our rankings. At the next level Myers will have to work on some fundamentals in his footwork and pass protection skills but he has great traits. Myers performance led to a offers from Edinboro and Shippensburg.
Kieran Connolly Kieran Connolly 6’0″ | 200 lbs | DB Iona Prep | 2023 State NY was a really good linebacker/slot corner/safety for Iona Prep this season. Connolly was a really well rounded player with a nose for the football. With great instincts Connolly is really strong as a run defender but also does a good job in coverage. I the games I saw Connolly’s best reps came on zone coverage where he could keep his eyes in the backfield and attack the football and players in front of him. Connolly has really good quickness and it allows him to often be the first one to the ball. Connolly’s strong performance this season led to offers from Union, RPI, and Cortland.
Jhai Vellon Jhai Vellon 6’1″ | 190 lbs | QB Amsterdam | 2023 State NY , the Franklin Piece commit had his best season yet as the quarterback for Amsterdam with over 3,000 total yards and 37 touchdowns. Vellon has dual-threat abilities and is really good at not only being dangerous as a runner but using his legs to create more time to throw the ball. Vellon has a smooth release and makes really accurate throws down the field. One thing that Vellon demonstrates on film that not many other New York QBs have shown is deep throws over the middle of the field that either split defenders or over a level of zone coverage. Vellon’s strong performance this season make him a must have player in our rankings and helped him pick up an offer and commitment to Franklin Pierce.
