We now enter a phase where we start to see junior colleges, Division 2, and Division 3 programs get into the act and hand out offers to athletes around the state. In this article, we begin to take a hard look at some promising prospects who either don’t have any offers yet, or will be waiting until the traditional signing day of February 3rd to put pen to paper.
Henry Brodnax – QB – 6’0″ 175 – Trinity Christian HS / @hbrodnax3
It’s hard not to notice Brodnax’s arm talent from the get-go. He has a smooth, effortless motion that makes it hard to believe some of his throws are traveling as far as 50-60 yards in the air. This also allows him to throw from different platforms without balls coming up short. The combination of his athleticism and arm both show up when he makes throws on the move. Another contributing factor is his ability to keep his eyes downfield. As the season went on, we saw this ability show up more often, whether in the pocket or on the move, and it’s an advanced trait for a high school quarterback.
Owen Brooker Owen Brooker 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Northwest Whitfield | 2023 State GA – QB – 6’0″ 195 – Northwest Whitfield HS / @OwenBrooker15
Shows the ability to work through progressions. Throws come out on time in the quick game. Has a quick release and high release point. Arm talent is outstanding; the ball jumps out of his hand with a nice spiral, and he can zip throws into tight windows. Drives passes with velocity into tight spaces over the middle of the field. Shows confidence in his ability to make all the throws.
Autavius Ison Autavius Ison 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB Riverdale | 2023 State GA – RB – 6’0″ 205 – Riverdale HS / @AutaviusIson
Clean footwork when shuffling to find a hole, and doesn’t waste any time hitting when he finds an opportunity, showing adequate burst. Runs with a low center of gravity and appropriate knee-bend. Able to squeeze through pockets for yardage. Can slip by defenders in a phone booth. Runs through arm tackles in the open field. Tries to spin off of attempts for additional yardage. Generally finishes runs by falling forward. Doesn’t shy away from contact in pass protection, and has the anchor strength to absorb power.
