Voss was a dominating player, helping Spirit Lake to another strong season alongside teammates like Jake Cornwall and Owen Laiumendre, who ha da combined 17 sacks and 43 tackles for loss.
Here is a look at the top defensive linemen from Class 2A:
First Team – Tyler Voss – Spirit Lake – Senior
As mentioned before, Tyler Voss single-handlely took over games this past fall at Spirit Lake. He was as impressive of an individual as you could find on the defensive side of the ball. Voss finished his senior season making 85 total tackles, with 77 of those being considered solo stops. He also had 14 sacks and made 28 tackles for loss during the year.
Second Team – Austin Pfantz – West Marshall – Senior
West Marshall’s Austin Pfantz was a dominating individual in the trenches along the defensive line, as the West Marshall senior recorded 78 total tackles. Of those, 50 were solo stops with 5.5 sacks and 25 tackles coming behind the line of scrimmage.
Third Team – Drew Denekas – Central Lyon/George-Little Rock – Junior
It wasn’t just all Zach Lutmer Zach Lutmer 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Central Lyon/George-Little Rock | 2023 State IA at Central Lyon/George-Little Rock this past year, as the state champions had players performing at a high level across the board. Drew Denekas was one of those, as the junior recorded 34 tackles with 7.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss.
Honorable Mention
Owen Lalumendre was an incredible teammate alongside Voss, as the junior had seven sacks and 20 tackles for loss. Braden Woods of Red Oak, Gavin Doehrmann from Williamsburg, Mason Allen Mason Allen 6'0" | 190 lbs | OL Clarion-Goldfield-Dows | 2024 IA of Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Caiden Simiele of Crestwood were other standouts.
