Continue ReadingThe February signing period is under a month away, so now is the time that schools are starting to shuffle their recruiting boards and find some last-minute hidden gems. Georgia has plenty, so expect coaches to visit high schools across the state frequently. Here, we monitor some 2023 WRs in Georgia still looking for a home and why you should take a chance on them.
Darius Cannon Darius Cannon 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Gainesville | 2023 State GA – Gainesville
Cannon is without question one of the best available 2023 prospects in Georgia. Cannon led the way in receiving this year for a very balanced Gainesville offense, catching 49 passes for 778 yards and 9 TDs. He also doubled as one of the best return men in the state. Cannon is as smooth and twitchy of an athlete as anyone in the state. He has excellent footwork which allows him to create separation as a route runner and with the ball in his hands. He can change direction smoothly, weaving around would-be tacklers without sacrificing much speed. With his ability to play on special teams, Cannon is a prospect that could see the field early at the next level. He holds offers from schools like Kentucky and UNLV.
Davion Hampton – Kell
Hampton projects as a receiver, but he is a true athlete on the football field that could play any skill position. Hampton has an intriguing RB-like build at 6’1 185. Like an RB, he is able to run with patience and precision while scampering to the endzone. Perhaps his most impressive attribute is his explosive first step where he instantly creates separation and dares the DB to recover. He offers a wide catch radius with his size but also with his patience and ability to track the ball in the air. Hampton can be a factor in the passing game, running game, and even the return game. He checks a lot of boxes and can wear a lot of shoes, making him a worthwhile investment. Hampton holds a few D1 offers, most recently coming from Eastern Kentucky.
Bailey Stockton Bailey Stockton 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian | 2023 State GA – Prince Avenue Christian
Stockton put himself on the map with a performance to remember in the state championship game. In just a few weeks, Stockton has emerged as an FBS-caliber prospect with offers from schools like Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, and Chattanooga. He also holds a PWO offer from UGA, the defending national champs. Stockton is a highly instinctual player that played on both sides of the ball this past season. He has plenty of experience and a fantastic feel for the field. Stockton is a fluid operator at the WR spot, showcasing little wasted movement as he creates separation. Stockton is as reliable of a receiver as you will find in the state, and he has the track record to prove it.
Logan Curry – North Forsyth
Extremely gritty and versatile player that wears a lot of hats on the field. Projects at WR, but is a positionless player that can line up at TE, RB, and on the defensive side of the ball. Curry is an extremely physical player that welcomes contact and isn’t afraid to drive through defenders to get extra yards. Curry is a fluid runner that has good speed and change of direction, making him hard to bring down in space. He possesses extremely soft yet strong hands, allowing him to bring down the football in traffic. With his versatility and RAC ability, Curry makes for an intriguing prospect that is worth a look. He recently picked up his first D1 offer from Mercer.
Krishon Lett Krishon Lett 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR Creekside | 2023 State GA – Creekside
Productive late bloomer that possesses some skillsets that translate nicely to the next level. Lett is able to attack the defense at multiple levels, showing the ability to make plays after the catch and be used in the downfield passing game. Lett is a high-energy and physical player, frequently showing the ability to battle for tightly contested throws and come down with the ball. His fluidity and smooth change of direction allow him to create separation and show promise as a route runner, it also allows him to make people miss in space. Lett is extremely physical and can make some big-time catches. He is deserving of a look and has FBS upside, in my opinion.
