With this group, we focus on the one of my favorite batch of prospects, the ones that are way under the radar in North Dakota and South Dakota and are just south of the inside of our top 100 in the 2024 class which fits in now as great small school prospects at the next level. This group shows a lot of promising skillsets on tape but have some raw ability that shows out on tape to grow or we need to see more tape pop up to rise up our recruiting board for the 2024 class in the coming months. Grab a look!
Colin Iverson Colin Iverson LB Hot Springs | 2024 State SD , ATH, Hot Springs (SD) 2024 Tape
- The first word to describe Colin when I watched his tape is how much of a “bulldog” mentality this kid brings out on the field for the Bison.
- He’s not the biggest prospect you will ever see, but man oh man, the physicality he has when he gets to the football is a force to be reckoned with for the Bison come 2023. He also uses instinctive footwork with his twitch to change directions effectively.
- I really like Collin’s football IQ wherever he lines up on the field, as he has that instinctive nature in my eyes to be yet another Iverson from Hot Springs with a good probability of playing at the next level. He also has a sizeable downhill motor. Hopefully, more tape is coming soon for a further evaluation of this young man!
Riddick Westley Riddick Westley 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Elkton-Lake Benton | 2024 State SD , RB/LB, Elkton-Lake Benton (SD) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Once he presses the gas into the edges of the football field, Riddick’s speed is certainly eye-appealing, as his ability to complete his run with the finished speed in the crucial moments when the Elks need it the most
- He has some growing development when it comes down to his change of direction with his running ability, as he shows good bounce from side to side; however, based on what I see, there is more juice left in the tank to be built on this offseason entering into his senior season and even before college camp season hits.
- Riddick shows some of the best athletic instincts from the linebacker spot, as I love this kid’s swift ability to pop down into the next level and make a tackle and show off some great physicality while doing so. He could certainly project to the linebacker spot playing on Saturdays, and building up his frame 10 or so pounds offseason will help him on both sides of the ball.
Teagen Nicholes Teagen Nicholes 6'0" | 240 lbs | OL Minot | 2024 State ND , OL, Minot (ND) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Teagen is an OL prospect you have to start with by liking his character from what I watched at the Minot State Camp this summer. He certainly was a kid at camp that was a high-effort prospect, and by the end of the camp, rep after rep, he got better and, although he didn’t have much, shot us over his tape within 24 hours of the camp, which is seldom amongst prospects I have met/evaluated at college camps.
- I like Teagen’s awareness he has in the trenches at center, as he keeps a calming base with his balance and technique. He also carries solid hand placement, especially on his angle blocks, by the way of his leverage
- His physicality level is the biggest skill set that will raise Teagen’s stock by the next update. He has a high football IQ, and that shows off in the bulk of the clips I have watched, but I would love to see what this young man can do this offseason to develop that mean-streak I love watching out of my offensive linemen
Austin Erickson Austin Erickson 5'7" | 195 lbs | ATH Aberdeen Central | 2024 State SD , LB/FB, Aberdeen Central (SD) 2024 Tape
- Austin is another new addition to our 2024 rankings, and although his tape is light on the eyes and length, the tape that is there shows loads of upside when we look at him in the future from a development standpoint when he gets more out.
- Austin shows off as a fullback that will work his tail off to get upfield to punch defenders right in the mouth with a consistent pad-level seen on tape, as this kid is a workhorse with a well-built 5’7 195 pound frame. That was a consistent piece in the Eagle’s game against Brookings last fall.
- I believe Austin is just scratching the surface to show off his upside to play a small school linebacker at the next level. He’ll have to get out plenty more tape from this season to show that off, but that physicality he shows off makes me want more out of his junior tape.
Roman Fossum Roman Fossum 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Bowman County | 2024 State ND , WR, Bowman County (ND) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Roman was a new addition to our 2024 rankings due to his performance at our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase this winter, as there were agile traits that he showed there that were needed to get on our radar at PRZ.
- Roman shows good elusive creativity within his route-running ability, as he keeps working his tail off to find even a small opening on his route for his QB to throw into.
- He shows off a good-sized catch radius for his size, and most importantly, the high-traffic catches he shows off with his hands are the most intriguing on his tape. On the defensive side of the ball, he is also an LB coming off the outside edge that you might want to reconsider blocking him, as there is a lot to like about Roman’s physicality in the linebacker spot as well.
Cris Peppard Cris Peppard 6'1" | ATH Mohall Lansford Sherwood | 2024 State ND , ATH, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (ND) 2024 Twitter & Tape
- Cris was another prospect that got on my radar of new additions at the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase this winter, as his instincts for finding the football struck a chord with me in Aberdeen.
- He has some swiss-army knife skillsets as a pass-catching wide receiver, is a long-strider on kickoff returns, and shows off that Gametime speed with a growing burst.
- Cris has some great hands on the run, and I believe he one of the biggest ceilings of upside to get even faster this offseason with his gas pedal going into his senior season for MLS.
