This season the Golden Wave had a perfect regular season going undefeated then proceeded to display its’ dominance all the way to the State Championship Game. The coaches and athletes have nothing to regret as the way they played the entire season has made them winners in all aspects. Here are a few main contributors to the program as well as some up-and-coming athletes in the program.
Key Contributors
Harrell was absolutely phenomenal for the Golden Wave this season. Harrel has performed well enough to put himself in the Mississippi’s Top 5 QB’s in regards to total passing yards and has certainly distinguished himself as an athlete. Jeremiah had an excellent season completing nearly 62% of his passes for over 2,800 yards and 36 TDs. This kid showed his ability to get the ball downfield efficiently. Jeremiah Harrell Jeremiah Harrell 6’2″ | 180 lbs | QB Tupelo | 2024 State MS has earned attention from multiple D1 programs including Utah and Mississippi State. Next season Jeremiah will be looking to have a repeat season and show just how consistent of a QB he is.
Fredd Adams Fredd Adams 5’9″ | 165 lbs | DB Tupelo | 2023 State MS is a Top Teir athlete and possibly one of the best defensive backs in the state. Adams has shown over and over the ability to shut down some of the most prolific receivers thus rendering the opponent’s passing game null. This season Fredd Adams Fredd Adams 5’9″ | 165 lbs | DB Tupelo | 2023 State MS 6 Interceptions and ability to cover ranks him at #14 in the state. This guy certainly has a bright future ahead of him and will continue to improve from year to year.
Up and Coming Athletes
Quay Middlebrooks
Quay Middlebrooks
Number 28 Quay Middlebrooks was a key factor in the run game this season. Being a running back to a team with an elite passing game often makes you overlooked however Quay certainly made use of his reps and playing time. Quay averaged over 7 yards per carry and nearly 100 yards per game. He has the speed and agility to put a move in the open field but also the power to run through would be tacklers. He has accounted for over 16 TD’s and makes the running game a real threat on game day. Quay will be looking to surpass his performance next season and show what he can do.
Tyreke Darden
Tyreke Darden
Tyreke is a young athlete with excellent size and skill as a sophomore. Darden was the team’s second best receiver in regards to receptions, yards and touchdowns. Tyreke has displayed the ability to get open on a regular basis and be a reliable target for the QB. With over 660 yards for the season T Darden is looking to prove that he is a true competitor and someone to watch this next season. It will be interesting to see how he does.
Tristain Jernigan
Tristain Jernigan
Tristain is one of the team’s top tacklers and a sure playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. He has recorded over 95 tackles this season with an average of 8 tackles per game and 8 tackles for loss. Jernigan play very disciplined as an inside linebacker. He does an excellent job reading his keys, tracking the ball then meeting them near or at the line of scrimmage. His defensive performance has helped the Golden Wave keep their opponents under an average of 7 points per game.
The Golden Wave will do just fine this off-season. They will be losing a decent number of role players within the team however most Key Contributors will be returning. The Coaching staff had done a good job of developing athletes in all graduating classes which is a key to being in the playoffs year after year.
