Standouts
OL | DeShawn Robinson | Avondale
DeShawn has been one of the best linemen in the OAA for three years now, and I believe he deserves more than a singular DIII roster spot. He’s a mauler that has consistently had incredible games throughout his time on varsity. During the 2020 season, when I coached DeShawn, he was a rising star that constantly impressed the coaching staff. He’s a 3x all-region lineman, which is incredibly hard to do in his region. DeShawn has some fundamental (footwork) to clean up and will continue to improve if he plays at the next level. I think he’s an excellent DIII prospect!
QB/DB | Darnell Bates | Ferndale
Darnell was a huge factor in Ferndale’s surprise success this season. The athletic QB was electrifying with his scrambling ability and was able to make plays through the air as well. I couldn’t believe some of the sacks he got out of and the overall amazing QB play we saw from him. His vision and athleticism are uncoachable, and his highlights are incredibly fun to watch. He’s a fun player with a ton of potential!
DB/RB | Savod Daniels Savod Daniels 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Berkley | 2023 MI | Berkley
Savod was undoubtedly Berkley’s best player this season! As a DB, Savod posted 2 INTs, 5 PBUs, 2 sacks, and 27 tackles. He’s lightning in a bottle as he blitz’s like a bullet and plays good coverage. As a Running Back, he runs hard and follows his blocks. he was a good running back but a great defender! Savod will be extremely hard to replace and will be missed!
RB | Mekhi Jenkins Mekhi Jenkins 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Royal Oak | 2023 State MI | Royal Oak
Mekhi is the best player in the OAA Gold! A nationally ranked prospect committed to CMU, Jenkins is an extremely polished athlete with blazing speed and great vision. He has immense potential both as a Running Back and as a Slot/Slotback. He’s well-suited to play at the next level and will be a great addition to the Chippewas. Jenkins is Royal Oak’s first D1 commit since 2008 and is surely a legend for this program!
