Which running backs have a chance to have big games in this weekend’s state championships?
Prep Redzone takes a look…
Jontavis Curry- Thomson
A standout senior from South Georgia looking to end his high school career with a state championship, look for Curry to give it everything he has in the 2A state championship game against Fitzgerald. A speedy back who can make defenders miss, Curry has been outstanding as a senior this fall and has helped lead the Bulldogs to an impressive 13-1 record so far. He’s rushed for over 100 yards in four of his last five games and had a memorable semi-finals performance last week against Appling County where he rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns in the win. On the season, Walker has rushed 108 times for 1,265 yards and 19 touchdowns. He can break off a long touchdown run on any particular carry, and he’ll look to do that often in his final high school game.
Bø Wáłkér – Cedar Grove
Another impressive sophomore running back, Walker has been a consistent back all season for the Cedar Grove Saints, one of the top teams in Georgia regardless of class. The 5-foot-8 190-pounder is a tough runner with impressive burst and acceleration. He hits the hole hard and he’s a dangerous weapon in the open field. He’s looking to score anytime he has thee ball, and he scored often as a sophomore this fall. He has a thick, muscular frame, but his natural ability to elude defenders and take off down the field makes him one of thee best 2025 backs in Georgia. Look for him to carry the ball plenty in the 3A state championship game against Sandy Creek.
Harlem Diamond Harlem Diamond 5'9" | 175 lbs | ATH Cedartown | 2023 State GA – Cedartown
One of the top overall backs in North Georgia, Diamond has been one of the most consistent runners in Northwest Georgia for years now and is one of the leading rushers in 4A this year as a senior. He’s coming off a two-touchdown game in the semi-finals against North Oconee and should see the ball a good bit in his final high school game, in the state championship. He’s scored 7 touchdowns in the last three games, so he’s ready to keep that scoring streak alive. As a senior this year, Diamond has rushed 127 times for 1,218 yards and 21 touchdowns. He’ll be a player to keep a close eye on in that 4A championship game.
Dae’jeaun Dennis – Ware County
An under thee radar junior running back to know in South Georgia, Dennis is a bigger, tackle-breaking back who does a great job of getting tough yards in short-yardage situations. He’s a back who falls forward at the end of runs, picks up yards after first contact, and runs with balance behind his pads. He’s a tough back to bring down for just one defender, and he recently had a 5-touchdown game two weeks ago. He’s been a durable, productive back for the Gators all season, rushing 159 times for 1,149 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’ll be a back to watch in an important 5A state title game against Warner Robins.
