Continue ReadingComing into this 6A IHSA State Championship we have the high scoring offenses of Prairie Ridge and East St. Louis who have dominated their opponents during this season and post season. Prairie Ridge’s Tyler Vasey set the single season rushing record this fall and is at the helm of this high powered triple option offense. On the opposite side of the ball you have the highly talented East St. Louis team that is by far the most talented team in Illinois with multiple players with P5 offers on both sides of the ball. This game started out with Prairie Ridge getting on the board first 7-0 but it was East St. Louis ever since winning this game 57-7 and finishing 2-3 in state title games over these last 3 state title playoff seasons (minus the covid year since there were no playoffs). With that being said there are talented young men on both teams and we’re here to highlight them. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Prairie Ridge Standouts.

Tyler Vasey
Tyler Vasey
Mr. Vasey came into this matchup with a dominant season performance breaking the IHSA single season rushing record putting his name in the record book. During this game, he finished the game 2/6 for 37 yards, 25 carries for 107 yards with 1TD, and 1 INT. He flashes his ability to add a touch on level 2 throws where he did a play action pass on 4th down to keep the chains moving early in the game. Where he really shined was using his vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles and used his burst through the line of scrimmage to gain a step on 2nd level defenders like he did all season long. It wasn’t the result his team was hoping for but needless to say this young man has a bright future on the next level as a rusher.
Mr. Greetham has been on my radar for some time now heading into this game and he works both as a lead blocker as well as a downhill runner. He works as a fullback and finished the day with 14 carries for 42 yards. When he wasn’t carrying the ball, this young man was either kicking out defensive ends or getting through the B gap to 2nd level blocks. A fullback with solid potential for the next level.
Highlights
Luke Vanderwiel
Luke Vanderwiel
Mr. Vanderwiel finished the day with 1 reception for 23 yards, 3 carries for 9 yards, and 3 tackles. This wingback flashes his ability to follow his lead blocks to stay ahead of the sticks when he did so on the few carries that he had. He also was able to slip through the 2nd level defenders on a play action shot to come down with a 23 yard gain on the play to move the sticks for his team. This freshman was able to get great snaps in a state title game, be sure to keep a lookout for this young man over the next three seasons as he continues to develop and hone his craft.
John Fallaw
John Fallaw
Mr. Fallaw caught my eye quickly as he’s quick out of his stance when pulling and can move well to make the kickout block. Here, he’s able to either make the kickout block on the defensive end or get to 2nd level blocks picking up the flowing linebacker creating a lane for his teammate to hit. For the TD his team had in the 1st, it wouldn’t have been possible if he didn’t make the kickout block creating a big lane for Mr. Vasey to hit breaking a 14 yard TD run. This young man has another year of ball left under his belt, be sure to keep an eye on how this young man develops this off season as he’s currently positioned as an agile run blocking lineman.
