This group has a solid mix of new names on my radar and encouraging juniors and seniors that bring good versatility to their game at the wide receiver spot. We clock in for Part II of our WR standouts from Aberdeen, and I still don’t think we are done yet analyzing this group; stay tuned.
Tanner Stein Tanner Stein 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Elkton-Lake Benton | 2025 State SD , WR, Elkton-Lake Benton (SD) 2025
Tanner is another known recent 2022 season Big Dog of the Week multiple times, so being able to watch his game in Aberdeen. He showed some smooth route-running ability at the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase and laid a great impression with his work with his agility. He also improved from his first rep in testing to his second rep in almost every category on Sunday. Watching his already strong sense with his football IQ, Tanner has sound awareness of the fluidity of his routes and a developing burst to readjust and get creative when the first route doesn’t quite connect. With already getting plenty of varsity reps for the Elks since his 8th-grade year, I feel that Tanner is more advanced with his technique, and there is still great upside that is yet to be seen. He logged 13 receiving touchdowns last year, and I would expect to see more consistency with his stat sheet with two more years of HS football under his belt. In my early eyes, he should be a WR that will play on Saturdays as long as he keeps developing and continues to add 5-10 pounds of strength like he has year after year.
Gavin Olson Gavin Olson WR West Fargo Horace | 2024 State ND , WR, West Fargo Horace (ND) 2024
It’s not the player’s size; it’s the competitive nature of his game, and I thought Gavin Olson Gavin Olson WR West Fargo Horace | 2024 State ND of West Fargo Horace fit that narrative on Sunday. He was one of the smallest WRs at the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase, but I was impressed with his hands and reach in 1v1 reps with the football. Gavin was a 3rd-Team All Camp Team prospect this last Sunday. A big thing I look for in a prospect is versatility. Gavin shows that off all over his tape from WR in multiple spots, QB, and much more. I believe his best spot shows coming out of the slot, as the wiggle with his agility allows him to get the separation needed to be successful and win his routes. With heavy work with his strength in the weight room this offseason, Gavin could be a solid small-school prospect on Saturdays after his senior season.
Dominic Kalacinski Dominic Kalacinski 6'4" | 180 lbs | ATH Sunshine Bible Academy | 2025 State SD , WR, Harrisburg (SD) 2025
Harrisburg’s 2025 offense WILL be a great over the coming years and will have a lot of size to choose from in the receiving core with Dominic Kalacinski Dominic Kalacinski 6'4" | 180 lbs | ATH Sunshine Bible Academy | 2025 State SD , who came into our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase in Aberdeen with a 6’3 180-pound frame that will develop swiftly over the coming years with his skillsets in the Tigers program. I liked watching Dominic’s balance in 1v1 reps for his frame, as he showed off a high ceiling where his mobility on his routes can take him. His tape also shows a good accelerator to chase after the football, and he fits into that free safety position with some good flourish. I will be excited to watch Dominic in Harrisburg’s varsity offense next year, catching balls from QB Jonah Knuth Jonah Knuth WR Harrisburg | 2025 SD the brother of Minnesota’s Jacob Knuth.
Israel Bauer Israel Bauer 5'10" | 150 lbs | WR West Fargo Horace | 2026 State ND , WR, West Fargo Horace (ND) 2026
Israel showed off some good testing numbers for his age on Sunday in Aberdeen, as I thought his fluidity in the L-Drill with a 7.62 shows some upside to watch over the next several years with the Horace Hawks. His tape shows off mostly clips from his at cornerback; however, when you evaluate the quick trigger of sharpness he has getting to the football, he is a younger West Fargo Horace Hawks WR that I would look for as a slot-receiver to be his calling card on offense. His soaring physicality level points to me that he will be one that will blossom in getting separation. He’s got some size to grow on in the weight room with just wrapping up his freshmen season in West Fargo, but he’ll be one I will be tracking over the coming years to see how he can put it together on both sides of the ball.
Logan Waller Logan Waller 6'0" | TE Beulah | 2023 State , WR/TE, Beulah (ND) 2023
Logan logged and put together a solid outing at the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase from my eyes of watching him in a few different settings as far as reps. His HS tape shows off certainly not your stereotypical tight end; you see a plethora of athleticism from the jump. His versatility shows off with his burst off-the-line looks like a college football player in my eyes, as he shows off to be more of an athlete on offense that you could use in multiple spots on your offense. I know for a fact that there is a handful of Dakota’s schools at the NAIA level that would benefit from this young man in their offense. No offers yet, but I see that changing here soon for this senior from Beulah.
Stay tuned for more offensive standouts from our Prep Redzone Dakotas in the coming days!
