Ceidrick “Suga Foot” Hunt made the game winning field goal with four seconds left on the clock. Mendenhall had a great season. They have no reasons to hang their heads. Here is how the game went.
1st Quarter
Louisville started out rolling. They got the ball first and scored on the first drive. They have some guys who did not want to lose this game Saturday. Their quarterback Key Jackson is one of them. Early in the first on a critical third down play he completed a pass to Jykevious Goss. Goss was playing amazing. He did not score a touchdown, but he made a lot of plays that helped the Wildcats get over the hump during this game. After getting in the redzone the Wildcats went to their jumbo offense. It was on and popping and the cats got into the endzone.
The cats were moving very aggressively again when they scored their touchdown. This drive was kept alive by Key Jackson converting on the quarterback sneak. They even ran a quarterback sneak on a second down play. The Wildcats started out this game being very dominant.
2nd Quarter
Tayton James played a hell of a game. He was keeping the chains moving with his arm and legs. Him and Darius Dampier were making some nice plays. On their first scoring drive he connected with Nicholas Williams on a bomb. It was a great catch and Mendenhall was on the board.
Dampier was a boss hog during this game. On a fake punt he helped put his team in great position to score after a forty one yard run. James would eventually find Walter James Owens who made a great catch. James put the football only where Owens could catch it. They converted the two point conversion and we were going into halftime with the score tied at 14.
3rd Quarter
The third quarter was some of the best defense I have ever seen played in a game. Neither team could really move the ball, and both teams were having success on defense. Louisville’s quarterback found himself sacked a few times. Mendenhall’s quarterback was getting stuff every time he tried to run the read option. We were headed to the fourth quarter with the game tied at 14.
4th Quarter
In the fourth quarter Louisville saw their offense make a few plays, but they got stopped on third down. The story wasn’t the same for Mendenhall. They just could not get anything going with their offense.
When Louisville got the ball back they were on a mission. Key Jackson would scramble for about fourteen yards on a 3rd & 6 that gave them the first down. Jaden Triplett did not do a lot, but he came up big in the end. Key Jackson hit him with a perfect pass on a critical third down. It would keep the chains moving for Louisville. Ceidrick Hunt was on the field and it was time for a field goal. Only four seconds left so either the game would be over or we would head to overtime. Before he got his first attempt through the goal post Mendenhall called a timeout. So Hunt would have to make another. He did just that. A perfect kick that gave Louisville their eleventh state title. The Mission for eleven gold balls was accomplished for Louisville.
