While session one saw the linebackers, running backs, offensive linemen and defensive linemen get the spotlight, session two focused on the quarterbacks, the receivers, and the defensive backs. After the event, I was able to catch up with this trio of elite performers to find out what they thought of the day and what they thought they did to earn the MVP.
What were your general impressions of the day?
Joe Hoheisel Joe Hoheisel 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2024 State MN WR MVP
“It was my first time at one of these camps. I had a blast. I think we had great camaraderie as a group. Everyone played great, and it was really fun.”
Khalil Toney Khalil Toney 5'11" | 145 lbs | DB Champlin Park | 2023 MN DB MVP
“I was nervous at first. I didn’t know anyone and just sat in the back. I hadn’t done any drills because of the snow in a month, but I came out and played and showed what I had.”
Cole Heilbrun Cole Heilbrun 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Wayzata | 2024 State MN QB MVP
“I was excited to compete. I knew there was going to be a big turnout, and I was excited to see what the competition was going to be like. I am excited for the season.”
What were you looking to get out of the day?
Hoheisel
“I wanted to see where I was as a player. There were a lot of great guys here, and I wanted to see where my benchmark was and how I can improve for next season.”
Toney
“I wanted to compete and see what I still had. I wanted to get some more interest from colleges.”
Heilbrun
“I was looking to improve. A lot of these coaches have great tips, and I was excited to get more information to get better. I also was excited to compete against some of the best in the country.”
Why do you think you were picked as the MVP?
Hoheisel
“I came in with a good attitude and worked hard. My talent showed.”
Toney
“I think I had a good day. I locked up more than one receiver. I wanted the competition, and I did what I had to do. With all of this competition, I thought I had a good day today.”
Heilbrun
“I am very humbled by the award. There were a lot of great quarterbacks out there. They did an incredible job. I feel I did a good job leading today – getting things in order when they got chaotic.”
