This article is about quarterbacks that stepped to the plate and hit homeruns at the state title games. Yes that was a while ago, but a good story on some great quarterbacks in Mississippi is always fun. Our quarterbacks have went overlooked for a long time. There are some great guys playing the QB position. Here are the guys that stepped up big at state.

[player_tooltip player_id='273258' first='Trey' last='Petty'], Starkville, 2024

Petty is one of the best quarterbacks in the state. He has a very strong arm, and he is very intelligent. This young man did a great job at the state title game. He put his team on his back. He was making big plays with his legs and arm. Petty was a big reason the Yellowjackets were up this whole game. Brandon did not have an answer for him and their offense. Their coach was putting him in the right position and he took advantage. Petty accumulated for four touchdowns. He was a grown man the whole game.

Kamario Taylor, Noxubee, 2025

Taylor stepped up very big. He handled business during this game like he had been there before. He was putting the ball on the money. There weren't many times that he had to use his legs. Taylor is a guy that likes to stand back in the pocket. He isn't a guy that is too quick to take off and run. He passed for four touchdowns in the state title game. His team lost, but he was trying his best to get them a victory. He was putting the ball on the money. This should be a very great off-season for him.

[player_tooltip player_id='248595' first='Quez' last='Goss'], Scott Central, 2023

Goss has a lot to be proud of. He is a back-to-back state title quarterback. He has put up some big numbers playing in the state title the past two year. Goss is an absolute stud at quarterback. He knows how to thread the needle, and he can also take off for some hard yards. I think that he had a great performance in the state championship. Winning is what he does. That's what he displayed at the state title earlier this month. Goss isn't the tallest guy, but he stood back completing great passes all game. I'm sure going to miss seeing him in the state title game.

[player_tooltip player_id='548504' first='Key' last='Jackson'], Louisville, 2023

Jackson has played better games than he did in the state title game. However, on the last drive he took a lot out of Mendenhall. He was converting first downs with his feet leaving their defense shocked. On the game winning field goal drive he was head strong about getting his team the victory. He did whatever it took to get them into field goal position. He completed passes, and made plays with his legs. After having a rough start he settled down and got it done on that drive. That showed the type of player he is. A true stud that knows how to win games. We won't see him play QB in college, but it was fun watching him play the position this season.
