Things are going to be different for the Maroon Tide next season. They are going to be moving up to 6A. How do you think they will do?
Next season we will some some similar schemes from Picayune. However, we may see more speed plays. Dante Dowdell Dante Dowdell 6'2" | 215 lbs | RB Picayune Memorial | 2023 State MS won’t be around anymore allowing them to pound the ball on the inside. Their returning stars are capable of being between the tackle backs, but speed plays are going to be very good to them next year. They already have the aggressive offensive lineman who don’t mind being gritty all game. That is an advantage. Let’s take a look at what they are going to be working with on offense.
Chris Smith, ATH, 2024
Smith is absolutely amazing on football field. He is blazing fast, and runs a 4.3 forty time. The things he does on the field in open space is incredible. He is very elusive when he changes directions. He also is very light on his feet. Although I mentioned earlier they are going to be some speed guys with power, Davis is a guy who can tote it up the middle. The hard yards they need inside will have his name on them on several occasions. Even though we are talking about offense, Davis is also a guy who helps this team out on defense. We’ll get to that later.
Darrell Smith, RB/WR, 2025
Smith reminds me of Dennis Thames that played at Louisville in the late 00s. This kid can do it all. He will be one of their players that sees a lot of plays from the backfield next season. Smith is also a guy that can line up and play receiver. He is a Deebo Samuels type of player. He is absolutely phenomenal on the football field. I love the way he continues to separate from defenders when the ball is in his hands. This kid also is very great catching the ball out of the backfield.
We can now take some time to look at this great defense. A defense known to deliver excruciating blows. I love the way they approach the game every week. They are not afraid to get busy. These guys are going to be fast and flying to football.
Jamonta Waller Jamonta Waller 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL Picayune | 2024 State MS , DL, 2024
Everybody knows what Waller brings to the table. Has been showing up in great fashion the last two seasons. He can rush the passer, or line up and hold his ground in their rush defense. He has been getting a lot of offers. It seems that Mississippi State and Ole Miss have been the most interested. Waller is going to be a fierce leader for this team next season. He is going to be one of their top dogs on their defense.
Jabari McWilliams Jabari McWilliams 6'1" | 245 lbs | DL Picayune | 2024 State MS , DL, 2024
McWilliams is a stud in the trenches for this team. He is a beast on their defensive line. He makes big plays all the time. Him and Waller are great complements to each other. I think that next season is going to be his time to step up even more. He has already made a great name for himself. Next season he will definitely start to see his stock rise.
Amari Tyson, DB, 2024
Tyson plays linebacker, but I think he will be a defensive back on the next level. He is a small guy that does a very great job playing LB on their defense. He is a stud. I love the way he plays. He is very gritty, and he doesn’t mind tackling bigger opponents. He is very disciplined as well. Tyson knows how to read his keys, and he gets in the backfield fast on blitzes. He is a stud.
