Conway Wampus Cats 2022 Season Review

It is now time to take a look back at the teams and players that made the 2022 football season a great one. We kick off our coverage and review with the 7-A Central division. The Conway Wampus Cats get us started with our look back at the 2022 season and highlight some of the players that stood out for the Wampus Cats in the process.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Time to look at the key contributors for the 2022 football season. The Wampus Cats always have plenty of talented prospects and this season was no different. Conway finished with an 11-3 record on the season. Conway made a deep playoff run and finished with a semi-final's appearance and a victory over Fayetteville.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Conway Key Contributors-2022</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='214836' first='Donovyn' last='Omolo']-Quarterback-2024</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Omolo has led the Wampus Cats' offense for the past two seasons, and he has been impressive in doing so. He does an excellent job in moving around in the pocket and extending the play. Omolo's ability to keep his eyes down the field as he is scrambling is another area that he excels in. The Conway signal caller has the potential to have a strong senior season for the Wampus Cats this upcoming season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='385303' first='Aaron' last='Smith']-Offensive Line-2023</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Smith had an incredibly impressive season for the Wampus Cats. The versatile left tackle anchored the offensive line for the Wampus Cats this season. Smith helped opening plenty of rushing lanes for the Conway offense. Meanwhile, he did an excellent job of keeping Omolo's jersey clean this season. It will be interesting to see where Smith lands on National Signing Day. He has the ability to play on Saturdays and the team that lands him has got a great player that will have no problem improving the offensive line he plays for.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='308244' first='Wade' last='Simpson']-Linebacker-2023</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Over the past two years, the Wampus Cats' defense has had plenty of talented prospects. One player that played extremely well this season was linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='308244' first='Wade' last='Simpson']. He did an excellent job of tracking the football and making plays on the ball. Simpson does an impressive job of defeating blocks and making plays in the opposing offensive backfield. The Conway linebacker is a prospect to watch out for on National Signing Day.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>What to Expect in 2023:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Wampus Cats will have plenty of talent returning for the 2023 football season. Signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='214836' first='Donovyn' last='Omolo'] will return for his senior season. Omolo has the potential to be put up some strong numbers next season. Look for Omolo to continue to open plenty of eyes during the offseason. Meanwhile on the defensive side of the ball, [player_tooltip player_id='356543' first='Qauayaser' last='Whitehead'] is a defensive lineman that has the potential to terrorize the opposing offensive backfield. Whitehead played all along the defensive line this year and I look for his impressive versatility to be used next season for the Wampus Cats. This team has the pieces returning to be a contender in the 7-A Central as well as make a playoff run again next season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
