This class is loaded with offensive playmakers who can be utilized all over the field and guys who can produce at high levels on both offense and defense. The question is where will they be used at the next level. Today, we will be highlighting some of the best athletes that should be putting pen to paper in February for the second signing day.
Offers: Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Austin Peay, East Mississippi CC, Southwest CC, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, Hinds CC, Coahoma CC, Southwest CC
A 2022 state champion, Jaylon York Jaylon York 6’0″ | 175 lbs | ATH Starkville | 2023 State MS was one of the premier offensive playmakers for Starkville this season, catching 64 balls for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 2 rushing touchdowns, 1 INT, 2 PDs, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble. York had spent a lot of time in the secondary his previous years, but flashed at wide out as a senior. He has good speed in the open field and some of the best ball skills remaining out of all the 2023s. York could bring a lot to the table at the next level whether it be on offense or defense, but the senior’s ability at wide out may prove more valuable. York is the type of consistent wide out that can earn some tough first downs while creating his own separation.
Offers: Mississippi College, Hinds CC, Southwest CC, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, Pearl River CC, Northwest CC, East Mississippi CC
Scoring 11 total touchdowns as a senior, JP Coulter JP Coulter 5’11” | 175 lbs | ATH Ocean Springs | 2023 State MS was one of the most deadly playmakers in 6A football this past season. Primarily playing wide out for Ocean Springs, Coulter was a huge factor in the offense, but has a ton of ability as a return specialist as well. Coulter stands at 6’0″ 170 with plenty of room left to fill out. As a wide out, he has impressive speed and burst in the open field and runs smooth routes downfield. Coulter is the type of player that just produces with the ball in his hands. This skill set translates well to the return game, where Coulter averaged 34.5 yards per kick return last season and scored 2 touchdowns.
Offers: Culver Stockton, Southwest CC (Baseball)
Playing a heavy dose of running back and wide out for Mendenhall this season, Darius Dampier is one of the biggest sleeper prospects left in the 2023 class right now. Although he isn’t the biggest, this is a player with electric speed that college coaches will soon take notice of. Dampier is a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands and can create something out of nothing on any run or catch. His quick twitch and natural burst help him make defenders miss in space. In addition, he has great vision of the field and can always find the open running lane. Really talented player that currently only holds one football offer.
Offers: Southern Miss, Louisiana Monroe, Austin Peay, North Alabama, Tulane, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, Arkansas State, Co-Lin, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, Itawamba CC, East Mississippi CC,…
Before suffering a season ending injury early in his senior year, JaBrysten Abram JaBrysten Abram 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Senatobia | 2023 State MS was becoming one of the most highly recruited players in Mississippi and for good reason. Although he only got a few games under his belt this year, it is hard not to love the upside and potential that Abram brings to the table. Primarily playing wide out, Abram also has experience under his belt at corner. The senior has tremendous speed at wide out and shows the ability to explode to the next gear with what seems like minimal effort. This guy is just a flat out playmaker. Whoever signs Abram is getting a steal in the near future on either side of the ball.
Offers: Itawamba CC, East Mississippi CC, Northeast CC
Catching 64 balls for 1,168 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior, Zion Ashby Zion Ashby 6’1″ | 175 lbs | ATH Itawamba | 2023 State MS could be the biggest sleeper prospect in Mississippi right now. His offensive production was off the charts but his defensive production was just as good, totaling 34 tackles, 4 INTs, 4 PDs, and 1 forced fumble. On offense, Ashby is a long, fast, and smooth player who runs great routes and has natural ball tracking skills. He can make any catch due to his great catch radius and has the athleticism to take the top off a defense. On the defensive side of the football, Ashby transitions well and isn’t afraid to come up to make a tackle in the open field. It is hard to find two way players that produce at such high levels – Ashby will be a steal wherever he signs in February.
Offers: Delta State, Hinds CC, Co-Lin CC, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, East Mississippi CC, Coahoma CC, East Central CC,…
The do it all back out of Warren Central, Trey Hall Trey Hall 5’11” | 185 lbs | ATH Warren Central | 2023 State MS was one of 6A’s most dynamic offensive players this season. Totaling 1,009 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground and 415 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns in the air, Hall has the skillset that college coaches are looking for nation wide. A smooth and natural runner, Hall easily sets up his blocks and has excellent vision of the field in order to create a huge play. When Hall wasn’t carrying the football from the backfield, Warren Central split him out wide at receiver and used him heavily in the pass game. Hall is a twitched up route runner who created a ton of big plays using his yards after catch ability. Love this guy’s upside he could bring to a spread offense for years to come.
