Both teams bring their own strengths, and high level prospective players that have helped get them to this place. Only time will tell who is worthy of holding the title of State Champions.
Gainesville
This season, Gainesville has been a lethal team on both sides of the ball, and their 14-0 record tells you all you need to know. Going into the championship game, they have scored a total of 557 points, to an allowed 216 points, which is a very large margin. While their offense can be seen to be one of their stronger parts of the team, their defense has also done a good job of holding their own this season. In fact, until their playoff matchup against Houston County, in which they allowed 35 points, and Roswell, in which they allowed 28, the most points they had allowed in one game was 23. Nevertheless, it will be fun to see how their defense fairs against a high flying, Langston Hughes offense. Gainesville has had a total of 134 tackles for a loss this year, with a total of over 900 tackles this season. Their team has also seen 51 sacks, 19 interceptions, and 17 caused fumbles. Look for Jeremiah Telander Jeremiah Telander 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB North Hall | 2023 State GA , Elias Ballard, Kadin Fossung Kadin Fossung 6'3" | 200 lbs | LB Gainesville | 2026 State GA to contribute to these stats on defense. On the offensive side of the ball, look for Baxter Wright, Sky Niblett, and Naim Cheeks to do their part to keep the points flowing.
Langston Hughes
Going into this game, Langston Hughes will be very hard to stop, as they have almost been viewed as the team of destiny this season by plenty of fans. At this point, they are also 14-0, and because of their incredibly well balanced, and well coached team, they have scored 757 points this season, and have only allowed 149 points. The most points they have allowed in a single game all season has been 28 points, and this did not occur until the 3rd round of the playoffs. With this, Hughes also defeated Rome last game, 42-3, to prove that they are here to wreck havoc. As the championship matchup approaches, look for Hughes to maximize its potential on offense, and to limit every aspect of Gainesville’s offensive game as possible. Players that will be on full display for Hughes include that of Jelani Thurman Jelani Thurman 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA , Terrance Love Terrance Love 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA , Prentiss Noland Prentiss Noland 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Langston Hughes | 2024 State GA , Joshua Horton Joshua Horton 6'5" | 290 lbs | DL Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA , Robert Lockhart, Gannon Weathersby Gannon Weathersby 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Langston Hughes | 2023 State GA , Jonathan Hughley, and Jaden Barnes.
