In Texas, all of the state games are held in one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the whole country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. The game I will be covering is South Oak Cliff Bears vs Port-Neches Groves Indians. It was a great game overall with Port-Neches Grove taking the lead early on going into the 2nd half. However, in the 2nd half, South Oak Cliff kicked in 2nd gear and kept on scoring touchdown after touchdown. The final score was 34-24 with South Oak Cliff becoming The 5A Division II State Champions. Both teams fought extremely hard in this article I’ll be breaking down South Oak Cliff Bears’ defensive standouts.
#8 Brandon Jones Brandon Jones 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB South Oak Cliff | 2024 State TX OLB Jr 6’1 195 lbs
Brandon Jones Brandon Jones 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB South Oak Cliff | 2024 State TX is a big, tall, strong, and quick outside linebacker. Brandon was great at blitzing with terrific tackling form. Brandon set the defense in motion when he was able to sack the quarterback for a safety. This led to South Oak Cliff getting the momentum it needed to earn the state title. Brandon is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers from; Sam Houston State University, The University of Colorado, Texas Tech University, Oklahoma State University, The University of Texas San Antonio, and The University of Mississippi to name a few. Brandon’s stats were two sacks and a safety.
#99 Cortlandt Kidd DT, NG Sr 5’10 270 lbs
Cortlandt Kidd is a force of nature on the defensive line. Cortlandt used his size to overwhelm Port-Neches Grove’s offensive linemen and was a massive threat in the backfield. Port-Neches Groves had a difficult time running the ball with Cortlandt constantly in the backfield. Cortlandt is an extremely tough and quick defensive tackle that played a great game for his last high school football game.
#3 Taylor Starling CB, FS Sr 6’0 170 lbs
Taylor Starling is a dependable cornerback. Taylor was a technical cornerback having a steady focus on his man and seeing where the ball went. Wide receivers had a tough time getting past Taylor he had the mobility and quickness to match wide receivers’ speed and movement. Taylor was able to deny one touchdown by deflecting the pass at a critical moment. Taylor is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers and was committed to The University of Colorado, but has decided to change his commitment to Texas State University to continue his football career.
#1 Malik Muhammad Malik Muhammad 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB South Oak Cliff | 2023 State TX CB Sr 6’0 175 lbs
Malik Muhammad Malik Muhammad 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB South Oak Cliff | 2023 State TX the defensive MVP is a phenomenal cornerback. Malik is extremely fast using his speed to get in front of passes to either intercept them or deflect them. Malik’s best play was his pick-six interception 41-yard touchdown as soon as he caught it Malik zoomed down to the end-zone untouched. Malik is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers but has decided to change his commitment to The University of Texas to continue his football career. Malik’s stats was a pick-six interception 41-yard touchdown and two tackles.
