These two guys and the honorable mentions had some great seasons this year. One of the guys on the list lead his team to the state title game. Let’s take a quick look.
4A South Offensive Player of the Year, Isaac Smith Isaac Smith 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Itawamba Agricultural | 2023 State MS
Isaac Smith Isaac Smith 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Itawamba Agricultural | 2023 State MS was nothing short of amazing this football season. He is highly recruited as a defensive player, but this season he was making big things happen on offense. Smith is a big boy that stands 6-foot-2 200-pounds. He has a lot of strength, and speed that helped him accomplish this. There weren’t many people that could bring down Smith easily this year. He had over 1800 all purposed yards this season with over 20 touchdowns. He is still not committed to a college, but a lot of them are showing heavy interest. Smith also won Mr. 4A this season. Another accomplishment to add to his list. I think he will be playing defense on the next level. Glad we got to witness this great season that he had.
4A North Offensive Player of the Year, Darius Dampier
Darius Dampier was all over the football field this year. This guy can play slot and running back. He can also line up and help on defense. Dampier had a great performance during the state title game. If you did not know who he was before that game, you did after. He has some moves in his vault. He isn’t a guy that does a lot of shaking and baking. This kid can break you down with single moves. Dampier definitely knows what he is doing on the football field. I think he has a great chance to play offense on the next level. He has the shifty moves, and good hands that can help him on thay side of the ball.
Honorable Mentions
Ty Davis did a very great job this season. He showed a lot of people why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2023 class that hasn’t committed. Davis has the size to make it at the next level. He also has the strength, and accuracy to succeed on the next level. You can see on his film that he stands very confident in the pocket. A 6-foot-3 200-pound, guy that does not easily get slung to the ground. Davis was extended an offer to play football at Mississippi State. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him playing on the group of five level. He is a power five talent, so him entertaining to JUCO to develop more isn’t a bad idea either. Davis is going to do well at the next level. He is a very good kid who is also coachable.
Kelley Jones Kelley Jones 6'4" | 200 lbs | DB Clarksdale | 2023 State MS was very impressive on offense this season. He played in the Mississippi Alabama All-Star game as a defensive back, but he showed out on offense all season. Every game you could see him bursting out for very long runs. This kid have over 1900 yards, and he also had over 20 touchdowns this year. He won’t be playing quarterback at the next level, but it was fun watching him do it for Clarksdale. Jones was very explosive when the Wildcats needed him the most. There wasn’t any rocket science to what his team was doing. They were simply lining up defeating people with the quarterback run. Jones had the speed to take the rock the distance every time he touched the football. He is committed to Mississippi State. They will be lucky to have a player of his caliber on the team.
