A lot of guys within this group were balling out this year. 2A had some prospects that were putting up record breaking numbers this year. Some of these guys lead their teams to the state championship game. Let’s take a look at the studs of this class.
2A North Offensive Player of Year, Ty Murphy Ty Murphy 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Eupora | 2023 State MS
There aren’t many players that had a year like Ty Murphy Ty Murphy 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Eupora | 2023 State MS . This guy rushed for almost two thousand yards at the quarterback position. Murphy displayed a lot of heart throughout the whole year. He is the type of player a lot of offensive coaches would love to have on their squad. He is a very talented kid that has a lot of speed with his size. Murphy is not the easiest guy to tackle. He runs the ball with a lot of force, and he knows how to finish plays. I think he will go to college to play wide receiver or defensive back. He has a lot of JUCO offers and that may be a good thing for him to capitalize on. With the right work he is a guy that can play in the FCS. He will do good things on the next level. He is also a very good baseball player.
2A South Offensive Player of the Year, Quez Goss Quez Goss 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Scott Central | 2023 MS
Quez Goss Quez Goss 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Scott Central | 2023 MS was absolutely amazing again this year. He didn’t help his team put up 72 points during the state championship like he did last year. However, they did win state again. This time they put up only 42 points. Goss was putting the ball on the money. He was also taking off getting things done with his legs. Goss knows how to win. He simply gets the job done. No, he is not a 6-foot-2 quarterback. He is not the fastest guy on the block. Goss just knows how to win football games and championships.
Honorable Mentions
Zay Pratt is a guy that we have to mention when we discuss 2A and offense. This kid knows how to get yards. He is also a nice target out of the backfield. Pratt had a lot of games this season that had him nominated for player of the week. Every time Pratt touched the field he was doing his all to get the job done. Pratt has one more year left to be the man of this category. Pratt is a taller running back. He has long strides, but has a lot of strength in his lower body. I think he is a guy that will fit in well at the FCS level.
JJ Butler was another guy who looked good all season. He had a great game during the state championship. He was catching passes left and right. Him and Quez Goss Quez Goss 5'10" | 190 lbs | QB Scott Central | 2023 MS were a very great tandem for us to see. The stats they have both put up in their high school careers will always be remembered. Butler is committed to Southern Miss. I think he will be a good replacement for Jason Brownlee. He has the height to come in and make an instant impact. Butler did great for Scott Central this last two years. He will be a stud in college.
