In Texas, all of the state games were held at one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. Throughout the weekend there were 12 games meaning 12 championship teams and 23 athletes that were awarded MVPs on both offense and defense. I will be breaking down all the offensive and defensive MVPs from each championship team.
1A Division II Benjamin Mustangs vs Loraine Bulldogs 68-20
Offense MVP (Benjamin): #1 Grayson Rigdon Grayson Rigdon 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Benjamin | 2025 State TX RB, QB So 5’10 180 lbs
Right off the bat, we have a stellar athlete with Benjamin Mustangs’ offensive MVP Grayson Rigdon Grayson Rigdon 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Benjamin | 2025 State TX . In 1A they play six-man football which is very different from regular football. Not only are there fewer athletes the field is also smaller. Also in six-man, there are no safeties or a 2nd-level defense to prevent a long-distance touchdown. With Grayson’s speed and strength, all he needed to do was break the 1st level and he was gone. Grayson used his speed numerous times as a running back and quarterback to rack up a lot of yards and score touchdowns. Grayson was even starting last year as a freshman and is way better this year. Grayson’s stats were 255 rushing yards, 88 passing yards, and 7 total touchdowns.
Defense MVP (Benjamin): #23 Nicholas Stovall ATH Sr 5’7 160 lbs
Nicholas Stovall is an overall athlete on Benjamin Mustangs’ defense. Nicholas was all over the field and a major threat to Loraine’s offense. Nicholas can play on the line as a defensive end or as a linebacker and didn’t matter which position, he was playing Nicholas would get off his block and deliver a devastating hit. After watching Nicholas on defense it was obvious that he was going to be awarded the defensive MVP of the game. Nicholas’ stats were 1 sack, 7.5 tackles, and 4 TFL.
1A Division I Westbrook Wildcats vs Abbott 69-24
Offense MVP & Defense MVP (Westbrook): #4 Cedric Ware ATH Jr 5’10 155 lbs
Now for 1A division II there was only one MVP for both offense and defense which was from The Westbrook Wildcats Cedric Ware. This is the only time this happened all weekend and it is because Cedric is a straight dawg. On offense, Cedric was a running back and wide receiver that played exceptionally at both positions. As a wide receiver, nobody on Abbott’s defense could cover Cedric and as a running back, it was difficult for defenders to tackle Cedric and bring him down. On defense, he played as a linebacker causing a ton of stops on runs play and Qb hurries. Cedric is an incredible athlete that plays phenomenally at any position because of his speed, strength, and fortitude. Cedric’s stats on offense were 176 all-purpose yards with 5 total touchdowns and on defense, he had 10 tackles and 1 TFL.
