In this piece, we will preview top recruit performances seen during this championship weekend. Big games come with pressure to be the best. Many athletes leave it all on the field during championships games, and this weekend the recruits below did just that. This will be a three-part series beginning with part 1 below.
David Brown David Brown 5’10” | 175 lbs | WR St Mary’s | 2023 State NewE is a 5’10” athlete playing both running back and wide receiver on offense and defensive back on defense for his team. The senior captain delivered a statement performance, totaling up 195 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and adding a 7-yard scoring reception. His performance was a leadership performance that lead his sixth-seeded St. Mary’s team to a 29-8 Div 6 Super Bowl victory over No. 1 Stoneham team. On offense, he has good quickness with pull away speed seen in his skill set. His loose hips allows him to change direction easily. On defense, he shows good aggression and desire to be physical. Strikes through the ball carrier when making a tackle.
Highlights
John Gianbas is positioned at running back for his team. This weekend he finished the season with a statement performance carrying the ball 33 times for 188 yards and 3 touchdowns. His performance help lead his team to a 27-6 victory to clinch the 2022 Miaa Div 8 Championship. Has a shorter frame that gives him a low center of gravity at RB to wiggle away from defenders attempting to tackle. His vision at RB is of high level. It allows him to see and quickly cut to hit running lanes forward or backside. Very shifty, gritty and determined RB to fight for the extra yards after contact.
Matt Festa Matt Festa 6’3″ | 205 lbs | QB Duxbury H.S, Ma. | 2023 State NewE Talk about leaving it all out on the field, Matt Festa Matt Festa 6’3″ | 205 lbs | QB Duxbury H.S, Ma. | 2023 State NewE is the Hallmark of the statement. In his final H.S. appearance, he finished 10-of-14 passing for 250 yards and two touchdowns in the air. His ground attack accumulated 12 carries for 35 yards and two touchdowns. He totaled 6 Td’s on the day to help lead his team to a Miaa Div 4 Championship. He has a college size frame at 6’3″ 205lbs. He is confident in his abilities and shows an extreme desire to compete.
Festa was also fantastic on the season. He was 163 for 242 (67.4 percent) for 2,941 yards, 35 TDs, and four interceptions , along with 110 carries for 480 yards and 14 TDs. He is surely a competitor and determined athlete. Has a offer from Colby with more college interest likely to come before signing day.

Alexander Carucci Alexander Carucci 5’9″ | 170 lbs | QB North Reading (MA) | 2023 NewE is positioned at Qb and Db for his team. This weekend his skill set allowed him to obtain (14 carries, 143 yards, 2 TDs) in leading the charge to a runaway 44-28 victory and clinch the MIAA Div 5 Championship. The senior Qb is not seen as a prototypical QB at 5’9″. However, his athleticism allows him to overcome this concern and that is what he has done all season. His throws are accurately placed where his receivers don’t need to break stride. Shows command presence in the pocket with awareness when to escape the pocket. Can make plays with his feet or arm while on the run. He is a 3 Sport Athlete with a 3.93/4 GPA, league All-Star, MVPx2, All-Scholastic.
Will Batten Will Batten 6’0″ | 185 lbs | RB North Reading | 2024 State NewE is positioned at RB for his team. This weekend he raised his skill set and likely his recruiting stock with 16 carries, 178 yards, two TDs in leading the charge to a 44-28 victory. He also had three receptions, for 50 yards and a TD to help his team clinch the MIAA Div 5 Championship state title.
He is a 6’0″ 180lbs with a 40 yard dash 4.62, shuttle: 4.46 and a 100 Meter Dash: 11.2. He displays good hands coming out of the backfield. Has good vision and patience on the outside perimeter allowing his blockers to do their job then find the open running lanes.
He is only a junior and his performance should spark additional interest from colleges as he begins his off season work program.rn
