In this piece, we will preview top recruit performances seen during this championship weekend. Big games come with pressure to be the best. Many athletes leave it all on the field during championships games, and this weekend the recruits below did just that. This is part 2 of a three-part series.
Christopher Kaminski Christopher Kaminski 6’2″ | 165 lbs | QB Ansonia H.S. Ansonia CT | 2023 NewE is 6’2″ 165lbs recruit who was positioned at QB for his team this season. During his championship game, he rushed for a 20yrd touchdown, and on another play he rushed on a fourth-and-3 play, for a 23 yard touchdown. This was all in the second half to help his team comeback in the game. He also had a 1st quarter touchdown run. His performance helped lead his team to victory and clinch the CIAC Class S Football Championship. He has good pocket awareness. He is mobile in the pocket and can escape the pocket when needed to make plays with his feet or arm. Shows good accuracy while throwing on the run.
Scott Romano Scott Romano 5’8″ | 160 lbs | RB Joel Barlow H.S. Ct. | 2025 NewE is 5’8″ 160lbs who was positioned at RB and FS for his team this season. During his state Championship game, he totaled 8 carries for 87 yards to help lead his team to victory and clinch the CIAC Class SS Football Championship. During the 2022 season he played in 13 games while carrying the ball 75 times for 801 yards total and 9 touchdowns. He averaged 10.7 yards per carry with a longest run of 65 yards. He runs with a very low pad level and shoulders square through running lanes. Has good vision and instincts.
Matthew Piechota Matthew Piechota 6’1″ | 190 lbs | QB Notre Dame West Haven | 2023 State NewE was positioned at QB and FS for his team this season. He is a three sport captain of Football, Basketball and Baseball for his school. He has a 4.1 GPA. During his state Championship game he was 17-for-24 for 208 yards and three touchdowns to help lead his team to victory and clinch the CIAC Class M Football Championship. He has very good pocket awareness, and knows when to move up into the pocket to avoid defensive pas rush. Has a strong arm and make the college throws? Puts good velocity on the ball.

Jacob Staton Jacob Staton 6’0″ | 200 lbs | ATH Loomis Chaffee Ct. | 2024 State NewE is 6’0″ 200lbs who was positioned at RB and LB for his team this season. He has a 3.5 GPA. During the state championship game he had 24 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns. HIs overall stats for the 2022 season are impressive. He totaled 1507 rushing yards along with 270 receiving yards with 18 total touchdowns. On defense, he totalled 102 tackles, 9.5 tackle for losses, 3 sacks and 3 interceptions. His performance this season helped earn him SCC Player of the year, All State Top 26 and the Levi Jackson award. He is seen as a down hill runner with ability to jump cut on the dime to make defenders miss. He can catch out of the backfield with good YAC. He has good balance and doesn’t go down on first contact.
Cole Peterson Cole Peterson 5’9″ | 180 lbs | LB Joel Barlow H.S. CT. | 2024 State NewE was positioned as an fullBack and linebacker for his team this season. He is 5’9″ 180lbs. During state championship game he had a bigtime play. He blocked a punt into the end zone, where a teammate recovered for a touchdown. His performance helped lead his team to victory and clinch the CIAC Class SS Football Championship. While playing fullback in a double wing offense set, he used his low center of gravity to power through 1st level defenders. He finishes his runs and shows good ball protection when running inside. At linebacker he plugs gaps well. He tackles with a low pad level. Has good field awareness and can react to run or pass.
