1A North Defensive Player of the Year, Dylan Rowsey
This kid absolutely went off this year. Dylan had 134 tackles and 7 interceptions to go along with that. This young man was all over the field making plays. He is a tall lanky kid that can play the safety position on the next level. He is a guy that you want on your team. Rowsey was originally selected to participate in the Magnolia State All Star Game. However, he was eventually called to play for the Bernard Blackwell Classic. It was good he got to show his great talents off one more time on this level. Rowsey needs to be concentrating on speed and weight in college. Kid has talent to compete with the best of them.
1A South Player of the Year, Keon Tucker
Keon Tucker was a baller this year as well. Kid had eleven interceptions with a few taken back for touchdowns. His team didn’t even make the playoffs, but he is a player that we need to talk about more. This kid is a stud that shows up to play every game. He had the energy his team needed every game to win. He was their motivator when they found themselves down. Tucker was even a guy that came up to make big hits out of the backfield. He is a smaller defender who definitely needs to add on some more muscle. I think his opportunities right now are on the JUCO level. He is a guy to keep up with.
Honorable Mentions
Jordan McDaniel had 14 sacks this year for McEvans. That was very impressive. He was getting after it every play trying to make things happen for his team. They made it to state, and he was continuing to give it his all. He deserves to have a chance to play college football.
Elijah Johnson did a very great job for McEvans this year as well. The young man recorded over 100 tackles this season. He did that on a very stingy defense. A lot of guys got after it on this defense, but he lead their team in tackles.
Amare Pam from Simmons is another guy that you have to mention. He also played very good this season. This is a kid that doesn’t find himself outside of his assignment a lot. He is going to get the job done when he steps out onto the gridiron. He played on a team full of studs, but he made sure he did his part.
