Over the course of the last three seasons, there hasn’t been a more productive back in the state than what Green has accomplished.
Green has rushed for over 3,800 yards during that time and accounted for over 80 touchdowns. With those gaudy numbers, he might be saving his best for the last games of his prep career.
“He’s a special player. He can do it all as far as a running back goes,” Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts said. “He’s fast, powerful, elusive, has great hands and more importantly is a great teammate. He’s a leader on the field, he’s a leader in the weight room and he’s a leader in the classroom.”
Green, who has verbally committed to James Madison, has Dutch Fork ranked No. 1 and one of the favorites in the upcoming Class 5A playoffs. Dutch Fork has won five of the last six Class 5A state titles with the only postseason loss during that time coming to Gaffney in the state title game last year.
But if the last few weeks are any indication, Green doesn’t plan on that happening again. He has 1,261 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns for the 9-1 Silver Foxes. He’s also added 18 catches for 245 yards and three scores despite missing two games earlier in the season.
The numbers since his bye week are even more impressive. In the four region games, Green has run for 696 yards and 16 touchdowns. But the last two have been the most impressive. In consecutive blowout wins over playoff teams River Bluff and Lexington, Green has run for a total of 387 yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 199 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 10 receptions.
He only played in the first half in both of those games. In all four games, he only played two series in the second half.
“We knew the offense would be centered around him but lately it has turned into the Jarvis Show,” Knotts said. “Once we got into region play, nobody could tackle him. Once he was able to get to the second level, it was hard for teams to bring him down.”
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a seven-part series breaking down the finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football award for this fall. Our scouts have seen these players this season and have in some cases tracked them from prior to their varsity playing days. The 2022 Mr. Football Award will be announced and presented at halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl on December 10.
