We got one good upset from week 11 with Rocky Mountain but who will be pushing that upset alert button this week? Here are some teams to watch this week if you like rooting for the underdog.
First up we have the Rock Canyon Jaguars lead by running back Aidan Duda Aidan Duda RB Rock Canyon | 2023 State CO (RB)(SR.) who had a crazy 43 carries last week. If you think that number is ridiculous this week should be even more fun in test of will this week as the Jaguars take on the Columbine Rebels. Both of these teams love to pound the rock and we will send who breaks first as the Rebels have a two headed monster in smaller framed back Marquane Taylor Marquane Taylor 5'6" | 165 lbs | RB Columbine | 2023 State CO (RB)(SR.) who is hard to bring down and can use his speed and the bigger back Josh Snyder Josh Snyder RB Columbine | 2024 State CO who is more physical and can catch out of the backfield as well. If the Jaguars are able to keep these two at bay and feed their own monster in Duda, they are more than capable of winning this game. The Jaguars struggle more against teams that are able to pass the ball and control the running game. If they are able to jump out to an early lead they should be able to control their fate. Duda has that big play ability he just has to get it going early and I’m sure he will get every opportunity to start off strong.
The Fossil Ridge Sabercats are a team that can create mismatches all over the board with tall receivers and a good running game. They have two wide receivers in Trek Keyworth (WR)(SR.)(6’2)(175lbs) and Domenic Leone (WR)(SR.)(6’3)(200lbs) that are a problem for anyone. Regis does have some taller corners that should be able to match-up to the height but Leone is physical at the point and knows how to high point the ball. Keyworth is a ball hawk and catches everything thrown his way so it should work in the Sabercats favor if they are able to score and score at a high rate due to Regis Jesuit woes when opponents are able to make it a high scoring game. The Sabercats are not only about passing the ball, they are also able to make way for Colton Pawlak Colton Pawlak 5'9" | 175 lbs | ATH Fossil Ridge | 2025 State CO (RB)(SO.) who was a 1,000 yard rusher this year. I think the Sabercats will be able to win this game with this explosive offense and their defense should be able to slow the Raiders down enough to give the offense a chance to make it a one or two score game.
This next team isn’t really going to be a shock if they win this round but if they do they have a chance to make a big splash and this is why I have them in Upset Watch. The ThunderRidge Grizzlies have already taken down some of the teams that are still in the playoffs and the only lose they have suffered this year is to a top ranked Valor Christian team who is a likely favorite to make it to the quarterfinals the Grizzlies are a balanced team that got some players to step-up for them in the first round. DJ Bordeaux (QB)(FR.) balled out in his first playoff game and looked like a seasoned vet under center. He even got Gavin Olshan Gavin Olshan WR ThunderRidge | 2023 State CO (WR)(SR.) to have his biggest game of the year. Maybe this is the spark the Grizzlies needed to jumpstart them into making a run at the final four. They have a top defense that is able to keep teams from scoring and they will face another good defense in Arapahoe who started to pull it together halfway and toward the end of the seasons. Again this is a really good team that should probably be considered a favorite and if they are able to make it past this round, I do believe they stand a chance against the favorite teams in this years playoffs.
