Continue ReadingIt has been a while since I took the time to do a top performer list. After the first week of an amazing playoffs and a great last week of the season for MHSAA I decided to make a list. Some will be from the MAIS, but nonetheless they are great performances. It’s that time of the year where superstars step up. Here a few of the best performances from last week.
Jay Stevenson Jay Stevenson 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Starkville | 2024 State MS , Heritage Academy, RB, 2024
Jay Stevenson Jay Stevenson 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Starkville | 2024 State MS is a big load in the backfield and I’m glad I got a chance to discuss his game. Last week he had over three hundred yards rushing and he returns an interception over one hundred yards for a touchdown. That’s the type of player this young man is. He gets it done on both sides of the ball and plays the game with a lot of energy. He was unstoppable last week in their playoff game.
Dillon Alfred, WR, Gautier, 2025
Had 7 catches for 167 yards with 3 touchdowns in the Gators 48-42 overtime loss to Picayune. This kid was doing everything he could to make sure the Gators came out on top of the Maroon Tide. They fell short, but he was having himself a great game. I love his style of play. This kid already knows how to run great routes. Go watch the film from the game against Picayune and you will see he is very polished to be a sophomore.
Kylin Champagne Kylin Champagne 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Oak Grove Highschool | 2025 State MS , 2025, WR, Oak Grove
Had 20 carries for 169 yards with a touchdown in the Warriors 42-24 win over Northwest Rankin. This is a taller back who moves with long strides. You can look to hear his name a lot more as the Warriors look to be protecting the ball more during the playoffs. He is a natural born stud that knows how to tote a football. He will be key to their offense as the playoffs start.
Antonio Kennedy Antonio Kennedy 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Choctaw County | 2023 State MS , RB, Choctaw Central, 2023
Kennedy is another big guy folks don’t want to see coming out of the backfield. I’m not definite on how many yards he had last Friday, but he had four touchdowns during their first round victory over Belmont. He will be the heavy load toting the rock a lot as they go on to face Leflore Co for a second round matchup this week. If they can find a way to keep him busy they can win that game. He needs to have another four touchdown game.
Will Loy Will Loy 6'1" | 170 lbs | QB Wesson Attendance Center | 2023 State MS , QB, 2023, Wesson Attendance Center
Went 29-of-46 passing for 372 yards with two touchdowns and also had a rushing touchdown in the Cobras 34-28 overtime win over Union. Will Loy Will Loy 6'1" | 170 lbs | QB Wesson Attendance Center | 2023 State MS is a major part of their success in O’Mari Johnson O’Mari Johnson 6'1" | 170 lbs | ATH Wesson Attendance Center | 2026 MS also known as Rari Mari. When you have a guy like Will who can get you the ball you can do a lot of great things. He was amazing last week during their first round victory. Look for him to have a great game as they face Tylertown this week. They had a classic game during the season that came down to Wesson winning on a two point conversion.
