Both teams were playing at a high-level both are top 10 teams in Houston. Throughout the whole game, it was competitive despite the weather. Then with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the score was 33-24 Atascocita was in the lead the game was delayed due to a lightning warning. The game was delayed for a whole hour almost reaching the time of midnight. After the delay, Atascocita furthered their lead and reached a final score of 47-24. In this article, I’ll be discussing The Atascocita Eagles’ defensive standouts.
#99 Samu Taumanupepe Samu Taumanupepe 6'3" | 380 lbs | DL Atascocita | 2023 State TX DT, NG Sr 6’3 380 lbs
Samu Taumanupepe Samu Taumanupepe 6'3" | 380 lbs | DL Atascocita | 2023 State TX is an incredible defensive tackle and is one of the biggest defensive tackles in Texas. Samu is only big but has the quickness and power to boot. Every time I’ve seen Samu play offensive linemen can barely contain him even while being double teamed they were not able to slow Samu down. Despite his size, Samu is light on his feet and uses his quickness to get through the offensive line to get into the backfield. Samu being a massive size his stamina is a bit lacking, but once Atascocita got an hour break because of the lightning warning Samu was in rare form and pushed back offensive linemen deep into the backfield for the remainder of the game. Samu is a top college prospect being recruited by numerous colleges and universities but decided to commit to the University of Texas A&M for the fall 2023 football season.
#8 Marquell Dorsey-Abram LB Sr 5’10 205 lbs
Marquell Dorsey-Abram was a blitz expert. Atascocita’s ran a 3-man defense so Marquell was important for blitzing and rushing Ridge Points’ quarterback so he wouldn’t be able to air out the ball. Ridge Point also had a difficult time running the ball with Marquell blitzing and Atascocita’s defensive linemen overwhelming the front line. Marquell was also able to sack the quarterback with a big hit and cause an interception. Marquell was also able to play patient reading pass plays to swat passes or catch interceptions. Marquell’s stats were one interception.
#10 Deion Campbell DB Sr 5’11 175 lbs
Deion Campbell was an essential defensive back against The Ridge Point Panthers. Ridge Points’ quarterback majority of the time threw long deep passes that led them to score all their touchdowns. Atascocita’s safeties needed help against those passes and Ridge Points’ wide receivers’ speed so Deion had to step up his game. Deion did exactly that he provided great coverage and stayed extra close to Ridge Points’ key wide receivers to stop these deep passes. Deion had the speed and stamina to keep up with those wide receivers and the jump power to get in front of those passes. Deion’s stats were one interception.
