SSAC football has produced good players over the years and these prospects need to get some coverage and exposure as well in hopes that they will get the opportunity to move on to the next level. There are a lot of good prospects and sleepers in this conference that I will be featuring and spotlighting from all over the state of Florida.
1. Bryce Cherry, LB- First Academy c/o 23
5’11 183lbs
Cherry has been dominant this season. Not only is he leading the SSAC in tackles, but he’s leading the entire state of Florida! His production cannot be denied, he currently has registered 153 tackles, eight tackles for loss and a sack. His instincts and tackling ability are allowing him to average 17 tackles per game!
2. Jon Luke Ventresca, DB- Cornerstone Charter Academy c/o 23
5’10 160lbs
Ventresca has been outstanding for Cornerstone Charter in 2022. He’s second and the SSAC with 93 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two ints and 3 forced fumbles. He’s a good open field tackler that flashes physicality from his free safety position.
3. Caleb Matelau Caleb Matelau 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Palmetto | 2025 FL , LB- Bradenton Christian c/o 25
6’1 195lbs
Matelau has been outstanding for Bradenton Christian this season, he’s third in the conference as a sophomore with 92 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble. He averages over 10 tackles per game. Quickly dissects plays and gets to the ball, flashes the ability to play sideline to sideline, it will only get better in the coming years. Definitely one to watch in the future.
4. Jonah Schmidt, LB- Bradenton Christian c/o 26
5’10 170lbs
Schmidt is a freshman linebacker for Bradenton Christian and forms an outstanding young tandem with Matelau. Those two defensive pieces will be a big reason that I see Bradenton Christian making a big turnaround next season. Schmidt is currently fourth in the conference with 82 tackles, three tackles for loss, two force fumbles and a blocked field goal. He’s averaging over nine tackles per game as a freshman. He flashes really good acceleration and short area quickness.
