All in all, there were two big upsets, but still, there were many toss-ups that ended in fireworks, and we now know who the majority of semifinal teams are. Now, here are the scores and some general analysis!
D1
Clarkston defeats Rochester Adams 36-33
The Wolves scored in the final seconds to knock off the 2021 runners-up. Parker Picot Parker Picot 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Rochester Adams | 2023 State MI played great for Adams, while Ethan Clark Ethan Clark 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Clarkston | 2023 State MI played great for Clarkston. Desman Stephens came down with the game-winning TD. What an incredible game! Clarkston will go on to face the winner of Caledonia vs. Grand Ledge.
Cass Tech defeats Dakota 35-21
This was a very close game for the majority of the contest. With Cass Tech winning this game by two scores, that tells me they’re the most battle-tested team there is in Division 1. To beat West Bloomfield, Southfield A&T, AND undefeated Macomb Dakota, holy crap. Watch out for Cass Tech.
D2
Forest Hills Central defeats East Lansing 21-17
FHC is for real, and East Lansing is better than many thought they were. The Capital Blue is still balling out, and East Lansing put up a very good fight. FHC is now just one win away from Ford Field!
Dexter defeats Midland 42-7
The Dreadnaughts were simply too much for Midland, who had never faced a team like them until tonight. Undoubtedly, Dexter will be favored against Forest Hills Central.
Groves defeats Livonia Franklin 32-25
THIS is a huge upset. As the regular-season wound down, I didn’t even expect Groves to make the playoffs let alone make the semifinals. I’ve been hearing glowing things about Livonia Franklin and this superstar senior class, but Groves simply got the best of them. Huge win for Groves as they show the world once more that they are a great playoff team. They’ll have to beat the heavy favorite De La Salle next week if they want to get to Ford Field, though.
De La Salle defeats L’Anse Creuse 55-7
Sorry, but this isn’t a surprise. This was a lopsided game from the start, and De La Salle could have hung 100 on them if they wanted to.
D3
DeWitt defeats Linden 29-16
Even on a down year, DeWitt finds themselves in the Semifinals. They’ll face either Muskegon or Zeeland West.
Mason defeats Trenton 49-30
Predictably high-scoring. I need to see the stats for this one, but I’m curious to see where Mason’s points came from. Mason’s win sets up a semifinal rematch against Detroit MLK.
Detroit MLK defeats Brother Rice 22-12
A close game throughout, but MLK and Dante Moore Dante Moore 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Detroit King | 2023 State MI rebounded and closed this game out.
D4
South Chrisitan defeats Whitehall 28-21
One of the best games of Friday. Whitehall had a chance to tie or win the game with a final drive, but they couldn’t capitalize. South Christian now stands as the State-Champ favorite in D4.
Edwardsburg defeats Hastings 24-14
The Eddies make another semifinal appearance!
Goodrich defeats OLSM 40-20
Big upset! Goodrich just beat a very good OLSM team. OLSM had similar-scored losses to some of the best D1/D2 teams. This has to be one of the most impressive wins in Goodrich Football History.
Riverview defeats Divine Child 45-35
The Downriver boys get it done!
D5
Catholic Central defeats Portland 42-19
Portland usually plays good teams extremely hard, but not here.
Frankenmuth defeats Hamady 49-7
Expected.
Country Day defeats Flat Rock 44-7
Expected. Country day vs. Frankenmuth will be a great game!
D6
West Catholic defeats Lansing Catholic 37-7
Lansing Catholic’s postseason magic runs out, while West Catholic is suddenly a dominant force the 1st year back in D6.
Clinton defeats Warren Collegiate 31-30
Great, close game that has Clinton knocking off the 2021 semifinalists.
D7
Lothrop defeats Port Laker 29-20
Lumen Cristi defeats Lawton 7-6
Napoleon defeats St Mary Central 14-7
D8
Whiteford defeats White Pigeon 38-26
Everest Collegiate defeats Parkway Christian 30-6
